Have had the Jura E8 for a couple weeks now. Very impressed with the machine. It can froth milk like nothing else. Very customizable. Not so impressed with finding a bean I LOVE.
I like really dark, rich coffee. I assume I like a bit of bitter taste maybe since so many say Starbucks sucks and its bitter. But, I like it. There's been discussion on here about how there are so much better coffees out there. Ok, which ones? Ive gone thru all the beans available at the local chain grocery (HEB). Not found one I want to stick with. Espresso was the best so far I guess. I will be picking up a small back of Starbucks just to try.
Self proclaim coffee snob. I had the Jura ena 6 (now the micro 9) for almost 5 years. It unfortunately kicked the bucket a few months ago and to get it fixed cost as much as a new one. Due to a painful slowdown in businsss over the last few months without a end in sight I needed to go a different route. I can also say that as I had it my taste in coffees changed and my match to the Grind a brew system took a turn. It was probably more todo with just the age of the machine as it was used daily 3-4x for 5 years straight.
I went back to a traditional drip coffee maker (technivorm) and a burr grinder (wife made me match the other counter appliances so went with the kitchen aid top down grinder)
Honestly I cannot be any happier with this combo right now. I miss the espressos and cappuccinos but overall I can not recommend this coffee maker enough.
Now- back to your bean question. Lose the grocery store and Starbucks crap. Surely you have an independent roaster in your neck of the woods. The quality of bean you get from a local roaster is light years ahead of the crap you would get at the grocery store and at Starbucks. I found a great roaster near me and I can’t tell you how much just getting a quality bean changed coffee for me. Our tastes in coffee seem to be close. Have you tried a Kenyan AA blend? It’s by far my favorite. I also like Guatemalan.
My coffee roaster ships if you want to check them out and you don’t have one local to you! http://www.talkncoffee.com

I have a Jura too. A customer of mine who was dying of brain cancer gave it to me before he passed. Whenever he needed me for something all he had to do was to say..."I've got coffee ready". Guy was a retired surgeon and was dying all alone, dead wife, no kids...I couldn't bring myself to ever charge him because I think what he wanted mostly was company. So, I really love my Jura for a number of reasons....
First:
Go here. Buy some Hawaiian coffee beans and a few bags of some cheaper beans too..Start with the cheaper beans..
They're non-roasted beans. You have to roast them...It's very easy to do. Throw them in a cast iron skillet and roast them on your grill sideburner...DO NOT TRY THIS IN YOUR HOME. They put off an extreme amount of smoke and oil.
It only takes a couple of minutes. It's alot like popping popcorn. Then you can decide how you like your beans.
Also check out some of the beans that are from Africa and labeled "Bright". I'm a dark coffee drinker as well, the African is a lighter brew, but it' delicious with more of a fruitier texture.. I love it.
You'll thank me..It's a cool little hobby. It only takes a few minutes and you've never drank really good coffee until you do this....
Coffee beans lose most of their flavor within 72 hours of being roasted.
Well, these guys have a selection of coffees you won't find around here. Maybe something will tickle your palate.
The commute is a bitch, though:

We dont have a local roaster, that I know of anyway. Thanks for all the tips! Looking forward to finding a favorite.
KOT, you're funny lol. Picked up five pounds of your suggestion. ha!
Hasbeen, like popping popcorn?! I assume you mean just the shaking and time part and not beans popping all over the place lol. Never seen nor heard of popping beans.

Yeah, you just have to keep them moving...They do shake and rattle as the gases are escaping, and then they'lll actually "pop"...it's really more of a crack, but no they don't jump off the skillet. Here's a YT I found video showing the process.

Thanks HB. Was coming back to edit my post about the popping after I googled how to roast lol. I may decide its too much hassle or become a bean snob and say fresh roast only! :)

I love doing it. I use my smoker a lot, so I'll do a lb of coffee while I'm out there anyway.
Modern Times Brewery also roast their own coffee and it's literally some of the best coffee I've ever had. Each month they release some unique ones so if you see something that looks good you need to grab it otherwise it'll be gone within a couple days to a week or two.
They throw fresh beans in bourbon barrels, rum barrels and all sorts of fun stuff.
I highly recommend signing up for their coffee subscription don't do the basic one at least do the middle or high end one.
