Wife and I are planning our 1 year anniversary trip and we’re flying into Calgary on the 16th of June and flying out of Vancouver the following weekend. For some reason I thought that Banff to Whistler was a 4 hour drive, planning tonight she said “uhhh it’s ~10.5 hour drive”

Is there a good stop over between Banff and Whistler to help break up the drive for a night or two?

The only reason why I’m asking here is because I know we have a few Canadians on the forum in these areas! Or would you guys recommend just spending the week in Banff?

Thanks Much!

Rent an RV like my boss did a few years ago when he took his family to Banff

The Thompson Okanagan Region (Kelowna) has a ton of nice vineyards and wineries to stay at.

That would be my recommendation...

Banff to Kelowna- around 6 hours
Kelowna to Vancouver - around 4 hours

If you reverse your destinations, you could do a rail trip from Vancouver to Banff. I’ve always wanted to do a train trip.

Kelowna

On the Okanagan Lake, lots of vineyards and fruit orchards to see. Nice roads to drive around on.

Do you really have to ask that? I thought we had that answer long ago. ;)

I live in Kelowna, it's a nice place if you can afford it. In the summer we become Calgary West.

I guess what im asking is- Is there enough todo in Banff to just spend a week there? Kelowna looks like a nice stop over!

We could obviously make the drive but I would really rather not spend 10+ hours of our vacation in a car in a day.

Is the drive nice between Banff -Kelowna- Whistler? We would do the train but checked prices and it was over 3500 bucks :(

Thanks Guys!

Banff is one of my favorite places in North America. I’d rather spend the week in that area than dick around getting over to Vancouver.

We all know there's no real need to ask that question.

There's tons to do in Banff. The drive to Kelowna and then Vancouver is quite nice depending on time of year. The Coquihalla Hwy (Discovery's Highway through Hell) can be a bit of a bitch depending on time of year. It can have white-out snow conditions in April/May so need to watch that.

You do realize that the 10.5 hours are in metric, right?
Convert that into American units and you'll be there in no time.

Just take the damn drive ya dummy....

Look for things to see along the way, hit some AirBNB in those off the beaten path and enjoy a casual drive. Even if Vancouver in plenty of time.

Find a place to ride horses for a day and you'll really be a hero to the boss. Maybe even get lucky...LOL
