Fins just informed me that the actual subject here is Google, not Parts Express, since "those are google ads."

I've bought a few things from Parts Express lately, and, internet business being what it is, ads for Parts Express now show up in between things here at RC.

I just saw a Parts Express ad with five product illustrations and I decided to check out two of them. I clicked on one and info came up on a LePair amplifier, surely an cute little product. Then I hit BACK to go back and click on a second item... and the ad didn't show up.

As much as I dislike ads in general, why isn't an ad in the history once you've clicked on it? (or whatever the exact issue is.)

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Part of how I make money comes through being interested in things that aren't necessarily important in themselves, such as this ad thing. Included is knowing more about the equipment we install than is necessary just to install it.

I mean, just the other day we considered using a piece of CAT6 that was installed where it would be hard to run a speaker wire. This was for a 70 volt system, so 18 gauge would have been okay.

I knew offhand that two wires of a particular gauge, in parallel, are approximately equal to a wire gauge three sizes up, so the eight wires of the 23 gauge CAT6 that we had could give us approximately a 17 gauge pair. We decided to go for it and run the speaker wire, and we were able to work it out, but by having a bit of unusual knowledge we had the power to choose what we would do.

And if you were running ads here, wouldn't you want people to be able to hit the BACK button after following a link, so you might sell more stuff? Wouldn't you want to have thought about that before committing to paying for advertisements? That can't happen until somebody thinks and asks about it.

No, because every time a business’s ad shows up on a website, they are charged. And most people, after they click on an ad and go to that website, would just browse that website instead of trying to go back to the original ad to look for more products.

Ernie,

I didn't see the ad you're talking about, but in general here's how Google ads work.

Advertiser has a couple of different ways to reach people.

1.  Target their potential customers by looking at what they already know about their customer and the information that they may have gleaned from things like Google Analytics.

2.  Tag you when you visit their website.

Now, they run ads for their product or service. As you browse the internet, Google places the ad in front of you.  The advertiser doesn't know who you actually are, they only know that you fit one of those profiles. And because you do, the ad is placed in front of you.

When you click the ad, you're not actually clicking a link to their specific website, it's a google-ads link that communicates that they just received a click from their ad campaign.  The google-ads link, then redirects you to their website and you see the part you'd like to buy.

Hence the reason you can't click back.....Now, maybe what they should've done is put all of the parts that you saw in the ad in view on the specific page that you landed on...Then you might have  converted.

So, in short...the advertiser has no idea where you'll see the ad.  One of my web clients who's also a member here is running a Google Ads campaign right now, since I'm working on his site frequently, I always get tagged.   One of his ads showed up while I was on RC the other day.  I thought it was kinda' funny.

That's not unusual knowledge- nobody who does what we do should be ignorant of how to convert from one gauge to another, or where to find the info.

I have never seen an ad on RC. Am I missing anything?

Google presents an ad...you click on it or ignore it...you ignored the second ad. Google isn't going to waste their time or their clients money showing you the ad that you ignored.

Obviously you didn't ignore it. You just wanted to click the first ad first. Contrary to popular belief the google cant read our minds.

Workaround Instructions:

1. Right click/open in a new tab or window for each of the ads.

Not exactly.

Google presents an ad for Parts Express. There are five illustrations of products. I click on one, info on that product comes up. I hit BACK, am taken back to RC web page but not to the ad.

I'm guessing, then, that though there appears to be one ad with five sections, there are five separate ads that just look like they're under one ad.

Now you know how the ads work. Do like Mac said and right click and open in a new window
