For a while I had mine on a kitchen cabinet. You needed to climb up on a chair to see it. It was more or less centrally located and worked reasonably well. Now I'm using Ubiquiti In-Walls. (works better)

You could bury the gateway and move to a wireless mesh system of access points, such as eero.

Are you talking about the WiFi router or something(one) else?

I don't use a router with WiFi - WiFi is provided by Access Points.

Ubiquiti makes some APs that are rather sleek.

He’s saying that his wife had been nagging him about it, a friendly argument insued and she got on the phone and asked where her friends routers were.

What it really comes down to is he’s a CI and the last thing he wants todo is fish a wire for an AP.

Our last house had an unfinished side to the basement (small Cape Cod) and had the works down there with the AP mounted to a floor joist to get it above grade at the back of the home. Our existing house has a great little book under the staircase that is central to the home but does very little for out back. Have since pulled a single cable to the rear of the home for another AP. While I won’t say I take the wife’s side on this, I know mine would not be too happy about having a piece of ubiquitous gear sitting out in the open. WAF fail, haha!

Unless you also have a home office that is 20x30 in your master bedroom, get the router out of your bedroom dude!  It's not your dorm room!

Most women, (not all) most women, view the inside of the house as a reflection of them...Most men view the outside of the house as a reflection of them...That's why your wife has a fit everytime you want to do some real masculine sh!t in the house...Like make a ceiling fan out of fender stratocasters.....

Take it from a guy who's been married for 21.  Move the router..You're a CI for pete's sake..Your wife should be benefiting from that fact, not suffering because of it!

You guys have it easy...

I have to install WAPs that are installed a fiberglass box that is installed on a heavy piece of metal, about 30lbs plus. And mount it on a metal frame over my head in a very tight space. I can see the spot with the mounting bolts. But takes me 10 minutes to wiggle my way up there.

Run over 100 feet of copper cable for power. And over 100 feet of fiber cable. Again, in tight spaces with protruding pieces of unforgiving metal.

Oh and then have to deal with welders, grinders, painters, argon gas and whatever stuff.

All this on a Virginia Class submarine.

And I don’t get to test it. So idk if it’ll work or not. Ha

Closet in Guest bedroom... Middle of a 1200 sq' house so it does the job well. Easy to wire as there is crawl space below and attic above.

This is kind of funny as I was "discussing" a similar "family" issue with my sister two nights ago.

Her. "Next time you're over, can you fix my TV's? The remote controls don't work"

Me "Did you have the cable company send you new remotes like you said you were going to do last time you asked me about this issue?"

Her "I don't need new remote controls, We have the TV ones, I just take the one from the living room to the bedroom when I go to sleep."

Me "So you have one samsung remote control that you take with you from room to room and you can't figure out why you can't change channels on your cable box?"

Her "Yes"

Me " So last time you asked me to fix this for you, you could not find any cable box remote controls, and you only had one samsung remote that you were using to try to control an LG TV. I told you you had to call the cable company and ask them to send you replacement remote controls. Did you get the new remote controls from the cable company like I asked?"

Her "You have remote controls, just bring them and fix it"

Me "Like I told you last time, I do not have the cable company remote controls. I can get you universal controls at cost and I'll program them for free... but that still will cost you a few hundred $. It would be allot easier if you just asked the cable company to send you remotes and I'll set them up for you.

Her "why don't you just get the cable company remote controls for me.. I'll pay you"

Me "OK, I'll need your cable co account number and pass code... Easier yet, just get me a copy of your bill and I can take care of it for you.

Her "Why is this so complicated, why can't I just use the TV remote controls"

Me " You lost your tv remote controls, and you can't control your cable box with your tv remote anyway... It's like you trying to use the key to your toyota to start your honda because you lost the key to your chevy"

Her "You're always such an a...ho... about this stuff.

Me "I can't help you. Call the cable co."

This is just another example of the difference between the approaches of men and women. We guys generally go for performance, while the distaff side* is more into appearance (or appearances, which is slightly different).

Couple that with expressions like "in the plumber's house, the pipes leak," and "the cobbler's children have no shoes," which supposedly say the person is too busy doing paid work to pay attention to his own work at home, and you have the explanation of why a CI would EVER have a router in plain view!



*now there's a term that needs some 'splainin'!

It's all about control. She wants to be in control. You know all about tech, she knows all about style. In her world style is more important than tech. Besides, her mother didn't have a router.

Hopefully, she uses WiFi regularly. Give in to her wishes and bury the router in a far corner of the basement. When it becomes obvious that that there are some nagging details to this tech thing, she'll be more open to negotiation.
