It's time for a new iPad, and I'm toying with the idea of getting an iPad Pro. It would mostly be for the pen capability, which I'm hoping would come in handy during site walk throughs (i.e. to take pics and mark them up.)

Apart from that one use case, I wouldn't really be taking advantage of the Pro capabilities. So, if the pen isn't all that great, I'd probably go with the standard model.

Thoughts?
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

The pencil + MyScript app has taken over all of my note taking at this point.

I use the pencil to markup photos/PDFs all the time.

My iPad Pro has replaced my MacBook for everything outside of programming and D-Tools.

How do you guys charge the pencil? How often does it need to be done? Can it still be used with a dead battery, but obviously not with the “fantastic” features?

12 hours of battery life.
You supply the creative charge.

Under the magnetic cap of Apple Pencil is a Lightning connector that lets you plug into iPad Pro. In a pinch, 15 seconds of charging gives you 30 minutes of use.1 And a full charge gives you 12 hours of scribbling, sketching, annotating, and editing. 2*

2.Testing conducted by Apple in September 2015 using preproduction Apple Pencil and iPad Pro units and software. Testing consisted of full battery discharge while drawing on a paired iPad Pro using automated equipment. Fast Charge testing conducted with drained Apple Pencil units that were charged for 15 seconds using fully charged iPad Pro units. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, and many other factors.

+1, I have the 10" Pro + Pencil & Smart Keyboard, its great for notes (OneNote) and I keep all of my 'distraction' apps (slack, teams, email, spotify, etc) on it when working on my laptop.

I personally can't imagine how I lived with out it in this field. We use Onenote, which is great with pencil support, as well as PDF expert to markup PDFs. I'd highly recommend.
