Switching from RTI; which of the two is more reliable? With RTI post T2C and T3 I've had over 50% failure rates after 2-3 years; hard to explain to clients why their $2000 remote lasted less than the free cable remote they've been using forever. The new cradle design sealed the deal; stupidest thing I've ever seen.

I only care for two way IP control for Tivo, Sonos, Roku and Radio RA2/Caseta. Alexa integration would be nice as well.

We had similar problems with RTI. The URC TRC1080 is a great remote. Stay away from the 820. It is imperative that the network is rock solid with TC.

I think you have to look at which platform offers the two way control you want. I don't know that Elan has any Sonos two way integration. I can say that URC does not. They had a non sanctioned driver that was terrible. They will be releasing a sanctioned driver which will be dumbed down like the others out there per Sonos' regulations. Ra2 two way works but is slow. The one way commands work great (have not used caseta). The roku module is pretty solid. Alexa integration is pretty easy with URC as well. I think both remotes are good options, so look at the backend and then make your choice.

I haven't had a RTI remote fail yet. Two had firmware update issues and were sent back and repaired without charge, but that was still during the installation.

Might be something else going on.

Wouldn't even consider elan anymore.

URC is probably the best bet.

Those are 2 interesting comments:

You have never had a RTI remote fail? how long have you been selling them? the failure rate has been pretty legendary.

Wouldn't even consider Elan anymore? Why? Have you sold it in the post Via era?

Never had a premature failure from URC other than the run of bad button pads on the 900s and a few 780 screens that went dim. The only consistently bad thing has been the RF base interference issues but I learned to plan ahead and work around it. TC has been great but yes your Network is the foundation but hey we should be doing that for our clients anyway.

Elan. The remotes are great, the programming and integration is great, and the remote access is easy. There is also no iPad licenses to deal with or having to build tablet interfaces.

We went to RTI in 2011. Ran a report in quickbooks and we have a total of 163 RTI remotes out there. Surfir, T2x, T3x & some T1's.

We worked with G! for the first two years after it's release and at that time Elan was the least helpful manufacturer we had ever dealt with. Prior to that we were on the sinking Homelogic ship that sunk in the harbor. The weakest database for codes and non-existent drivers. I was told this more times then I can recall, "Just make your own and learn in the codes" We also dealt with the License Apps which after someone bought a HC12 they then had to spend another $799.00 or so per "pro app", how many were there? Something like 8 or 9, I can't remember. Elan also seemed to change ownership every few months and every person we worked with for the past 10 years disappeared overnight and was replaced by someone with no interest in what was actually occurring with their dealers. They also signed up everybody with a white van and business license to be dealers and we dealt with that chaos for years before G! came to market.

After two meetings with our local RTI rep and seeing the flexibility it has Vs the G! we were sold.

Remotes? As in more than one remote, plural. Is there more than the hr200?

Elan has been the most solid platform I’ve worked with. Sure, it has some odd little nuances, like all control systems, but reliability has been great, the hardware is solid, programming is really straight forward, and issues have been minimal.

HR200, HR10, HR30. Easily the most reliable system we have used outside of Complete Control, and we also sell Control4 and Savant and "own" a number of Crestron and RTI systems.

They have two new models that released this year. The HR10 which can only do a single room for about half the price of the HR200 and the HR30 to replace the 200. The new remotes have updated WiFi chips.

Here is the secret. Whatever system you use, you have to learn it’s nuances and learn how to work around them.

Exactly. And Elan’s Nuances don’t bother me at all, and have yet to cause any significant inconvenience

And given how fast and easy programming is, really make the nuances worth it
