no, Savant needs Sonos still for IP control.

So you meant to say Sonos Playbar, not Bluesound soundbar?

On 1519881217, Impaqt

the IP/RS232 protocol is far more expansive than the IR. For example, we can push the TV to ANY app the client wants a hotkey for.

Now THAT is hella nice. I had no idea

I wonder how much of this may come down to the fact Samsung now owns AMX. Maybe a little communication between divisions?

After setting up a new Samsung TV for a client who was noncommittal about the URC remote, I said well here is the Samsung remote for when you wanna switch to your Apple TV. The next thing I knew the Samsung remote sensed the AT&T cable box and you could speak to it to have it change AT&T channels. Whoa.

So they are eliminating the stupid One Connect boxes?

ya they are a pain in the ass. Would be a lot cooler if they were smaller and fit into a 14x14 recessed wall box well.

You could always use a 20-28” structured wiring enclosure with a flange. Plenty of space.

And they were stupid because????

Frederick

This past Friday I had a bad one connect (or maybe the cable) right out of the box. Samsung tech support said they can ship a new one and the customer should have it in 5-10 buisness days. Of course we will get it somewhere else so the client doesn't have to wait that long. But now we have learned that we need to keep a spare on the van just in case. So yeah, screw those stupid things.

I wonder if there's some reason to expect that a separate little box like that is any more likely to be defective than the entire TV is. In other words, there's no proof that it makes any sense to carry an extra one with you. Either you'll never recoup your investment in the box or we'll ALL start having this problem!

However, the cable is its own problem. It's unique, so you can't just go buy, say, a VGA or DVI cable and use that instead. Also the cable adds four places of possible failure: the connector in the TV, the connector in the box, and each connector in the cable. Plus, that cable is probably the wrong length more than 90% of the time, in particular it's too short for many setups.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I thought I had a bad box once. I had one end of the cable not fully “clicked” in place and no picture. Once clicked in, still error message. Had to unplug from power and reseat both ends before all was good.

Yeah that's what I thought also. Unplugged everything. Let sit for 5 minutes. Plugged everything back in making sure everything was all the way in. Same problem.

Ernie I'm fully aware that this is probably going to be a one time problem, and that we will end up with a spare box sitting in the van for eternity. But the boss doesn't like the possibility of it happening again and leaving the client disappointed. Not to mention having to roll the van out there again.
