Hello all,

I'm going to make my own RG-6 cable and would like to know the best brand of crimper. I'll be using Vextra cable. A suggestion on connectors would be helpful as well.

I use cable pro compression crimpers and f-conn green connectors. These have always worked very well for me. The crimper can be used with their RCA and BNC ends as well.

If this is just for you at home, and not for work, I would buy the Ideal Hex Crimper, Stripper and RG-6 ends from Home Depot... They work for 99.9% of home stuff, if you do a decent job with the stripper and seat the wire well.

The problem with the compression tools and ends is that you will spend more on the order of double, and end up with a bag of 98 ends and an expensive tool.

FWIW, we use Liberty compression ends and tools.

This is actually for work. I am not a professional installer, but I need to create my own cables.

Also, does a stripper of some sort exist?? That seems to be one of the hardest things to do.

Ditto on the Cable Pro 360 and matching connectors. I recently picked up the connectors at Home Depot but the tool is a pro item

I've gotten some Steren stuff when I order from DBL. Has anyone tried their Perma-Seal connectors and found them to be satisfactory? DBL is pretty convenient and reasonably priced. Thanks for any feedback.

I have used the Steren Tool and the Perma seal connectors for RCA and F fittings.

The RCA ends work fine, although they do not look stellar compared to some of the Liberty or Monster Cable ends. No gold plating and the color bands are very thin when the fitting is compressed.

The F connectors are OK and do look better than an augat end. One drawback to them is the length.... if you are in a tight cabinet they require more room.

I use the Cable prep stripper. It seems to be the best for all types of coax.

I have been using Snap-N-Seals for years. I got fed up with all the consumer items from Radio Shack, Fry's etc. I have seen one other excellent model that my Comcast tech uses. I think that they are roughly equivalent. Check out Ebay for buying the connector--I have found great pricing there in quanity of 50 to 100--plus the special tool that you will need. They are far better/reliable then those that you will find on Monster and other consumer premade cable and much easier to thread off and on. In this regard, some are so bad, I do know how they have ever gotten to market. I am speaking in particular those that come packaged with your electronic equipment and the ends are designed to make it almost impossible to thread them on your device. I do a lot of work in the Florida Keys, (which really sucks) and I get these AWESOME F-conn's with a rubber o-ring. I don't know the manufacturer, I buy them from AudioVideo in Paradise, a cool a/v shop in Key West. (305-296-9099) I use a Cable Pro compression tool, and the Quest TCS-5030 stripper with adjustable blades. Excellent tools.
