Oof.

Glad I didn't sell any of these. I wouldn't want the bill/insurance claim for millwork at some of my client's homes. And I know damn well they would have come after me for it.

Are you suggesting that the very same object I use to prevent water rings from my beverages can prevent OTHER objects from leaving marks on my furniture????

So, if I come to your house..it's safe to say you have doilies under everything that doesn't have water in it?   We all understand water rings...these aren't water rings.....What is "leaking" out of a Apple Home to cause it to leave a white ring that doesn't come off without refinishing the furniture?

Yes sir, I understand you paid $10k for the table in your foyer.  I'm sure if we just sand it down and refinish it everything will go swimmingly.  I've got sandpaper and a wood marker..

While the leaving marks doesn’t seem like that big of a deal since so many other things have the same problem, I can’t help but wonder if this would have happened if Jobs was still alive and in charge. He was known to have a mind for every tiny detail.

But on a bigger note, $350 for that little piece of crap? Really?

What other product have this problem?  I've got plenty of plastic and plenty of wood in my house...I've never seen this before.  A product that has been on the market for less than a week leaves unremovable marks on a table after a few days?

We're not talking about water rings that fade after the glass is removed.

Tim Cook needs to go!  I'm starting a campaign! :)

Way back at iPhone 1 apple was making products that couldn't survive the wild without a cover. An entire industry was built making covers and cases and carriers and protectors for their too cool for school phone.

A decade later no one should be surprised that the little white box needs a coaster.

Cook destroyed the UI rule book. He should go for that alone.

Our Echo Dot left a mark on our prized 1959 Bozaks that had already been refinished. It's a pale, white circle. I'm not sure how I'm going to fix it or if I can.

According to the article, one Amazon echo did the same thing. And many other unnamed items that the spokesperson from apple couldnt think of have the same problem. How much more evidence do you need? :)

I do find it a little humorous that if they had used a natural product for their base, like cork or felt, there would be no issue. But, those would have made the little speaker $400

What finish was used? If it was shellac (French Polish), it's not the end of the world and after fixing, the surface needs a few coats of good paste wax. If it's some kind of varnish, I would guess that the plastic or the ring are off-gassing something. If the plastic is PVC, I would look at that as the cause- it can cause problems for many finishing materials, including nitrocellulose lacquer.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Fake News!  (Sorry, I couldn't resist).

Everybody knows Tim Cook paid off Tom's Guide to scuff up a table and write a review...

Apple's response....."Their product does it too.".

The race to the bottom...it's exhausting.

Solution: don’t buy, or sell to your customer, little boxes that sound like shit and have the potential to eavesdrop and create spam even more than usual.
