I am like Casey, find the top of the television and measure down 2 inches. That is the top of the low-voltage plaster ring and electrical. I usually put them in horizontally as well. Having them at the top makes it infinitely easier to keep the wires hidden behind the TV. If you have power and HDMI cables coming out too low, they try to dangle down below the TV.
