offsite trouble shooting. (onsite would be nice aswell) in the situations where the network hasn't been taken over and there is an issue with the reservations.

today's case was client has his own network company from his business managing his home. There was an issue with his VPN and his IT company reset the router and the reservations didnt come back. Had to have him download fing and scan for me and send me screenshots.

There has been a few times that ive been ofsite and needed to see the network. Seems like it would be simple for C4 to add. ive used the driver from HL a few times and had some mixed results. Clearly this isnt an issue if we own the network but for those jobs where we cant it would save so much time.

You should look into domotz or ovrc pro. I think Control4 recently bought ihiji but I'm pretty sure they are going to integrate those services with their networking gear.

It would be easy to implement I think. I know tech support has a way to do it, either through putty or some other method. I have had them scan a remote network to find a device that was offline.

I prefer their putters.

My first and only IP scanning tool. Have never had a reason to try anything else.

Ok so since you are already planning on connecting via remote Composer, that opens up a vpn connection for you. I’m assuming you have putty already installed if you’re a C4 installer. Then in putty start a session to the controller running director via its public IP address on port 22. Now you’re in the network. From putty run something like this:

for /L %i in (0,1,255) do ping -n 1 -w 250 192.168.1.%i>>ipaddress.txt

(Replace the 192.168.1. With your network).

I am on a plane and going from memory on the script but you’re a smart guy...make it happen :-)

Also, perfect example of why NOT to depend on reservations.

How well is this working and how feature rich compared to domotz?
My only experience with Pakpak was a failure as the unit bricked.
Where as i had a domotz not load right and a couple of emails and 20 minuets later it was fixed.
