Working on a little system for preschool. I'm suggesting play1s in the art room and music room and a connect AMP for a couple niles OS10s I put in on the back patio a couple years back. They have an iPad with some itunes music on it and have asked to add all the kids CDs to the library. I would rip the CDs into itunes and then download them to the iPad via iCloud.

I know they could put tracks in the queue and then group rooms together to listen to the same thing but can they setup separate queues to play in different rooms using music on the iPad? I can't test here as I don't have itunes music setup on my system at the moment.

I just tested from my iPhone playing 2 different songs to 2 different zones and it seemed to work - I'm too lazy to get up and walk to the zones and listen :D

I then played 2 different Apple Music playlists from my phone to them and again the app did not show any error, it seemed to work.

It will not let me create a Sonos playlist of music stored on my phone though.

A given iDevice can only play one track at a time. You can play this track in as many rooms as you like. Note that the iDevice that is currently playing a track must be awake and have a good WiFi connection.

My preferred solution is to add a NAS to the system and store the music there. The NAS is always ON and does not need WiFi. At this point any controller can start a Queue, then be shut down.

Not from my testing as I reported above, and I just tried again 2 different songs from my iPhone over WiFi to 2 zones and after I started playing I put it back to the lock screen and the display off.

Unless you mean from the headphone jack into the line input on a Sonos device, then only 1 song can be played.


The best way to do it.
No problems with WiFi or iDevices being taken out of the building or battery flat etc.
