I have a client who bought a pair of 802D2’s three years ago. Unfortunately, he passed away a year ago and he left his widow in a rough the spot financially. I helped sell the 802’s to another client and unbeknownst to me the teenage daughter of the client vandalized the tweeters before I delivered the speakers to the new owner. Evidently, the daughter was angry with the fact mom was selling her late father’s beloved speakers. I had tested the speakers two weeks before I sold them to my other client and they were fine and didn’t think to test them the day I picked them up and delivered them to the new home of my other client.
Anyway, my client reached out to B&W and was told the replacement tweeters for each speaker were almost $1100 each.

If anyone has any ideas I’d appreciate it.
Thanks!

I was really po’d. She’s 13 and has had behavioral issues when her dad was alive and when she gets grounded from the internet or loses gaming privileges she’ll start hitting her mom. Sad. Very sad. Her dad was 48 and died in surgery for a minor procedure.

This is a hard, hard situation. You had NOTHING to do with the damage, so you can't take any responsibility for it. Don't let your feelings take you there. The mother and daughter both have to live with the situation. You can be nice to them but don't let it hurt you.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Good story. Be more careful moving next time. That sucks. Are they a type with removable and replaceable diaphragm type of tweeter? Might be less than entire tweeter assembly.

You are right. I guess the solution is to deduct the tweeter replacement cost from the proceeds of the sale.
I don’t understand why someone would shoot themselves in the foot like this. $2k would do a lot of good for them right now.

I guess the price is not really THAT bad considering that the speakers' MSRP is $15k/pair. $2200 for a pair of diamond tweeters is just under 15% of MSRP. I recently replaced some Klipsch tweeters. I think the cost of the tweeters was roughly the same % of MSRP of the speakers.

Expensive things have expensive parts. Such is life.
