Hmm ... If we believe all of the fundamentalists, we will need to expand Hell. Therefore we should expect Earth to expand to accommodate these lost souls.

It is said, and I have experienced, that every job will expand to completely fill the time allotted for it, so it just makes sense that hell will expand as needed to house the lost souls. Or, actually, almost as needed -- if it were comfortably large, it wouldn't quite be hell.
