WTF! Fins.....YOU'RE DEAD TO ME!

jk.  Listen if he's a small freelancer and you think it would help him if he and I spoke, give him my email information.  I'm happy to help if I can.

I assure you it wasn’t my call. And it’s kind of a long story. But thanks, I will let him know.

Now that you can do routines with Alexa, I would change "Alexa, turn on welcome", to "Alexa, I'm home".

I checked for spelling errors but did not see anything. Just one minor grammer nit with a period being outside of quotation mark in the About page:

Thank goodness someone who can’t spell ‘grammar’ is spell-checking the new website!!

Nice. Congrats. Few things:

Control4 is great for SEO. Use the term generously on your site. I don't see it anywhere.

I like a "brands" section on dealer sites. You might think it doesn't matter bc you're the brand, but it helps with SEO and reputation. Just some good representative brands. Doesn't have to be comprehensive.

Gallery of work!

Yeah, the Control 4 link is there...1st page.

I somewhat agree about the links, but we're talking backlinks here....the people who are benefiting from my customers putting manufacturer links on their site are the manufacturers....

If Manufacturer X has 10,000 dealers, and 10,000 dealer sites are pointing to X's site...Then X receives all that backlink juice from Google.  Google will view them as an authority in the subject, and rightfully so (because 10,000 websites are pointing to them singing the praises of their awesome widget )......What is my customer actually getting from it? Other than a potential customer clicking away from their site...never to be heard from again...

I actually had a conversation about this with a webmaster for an innovative screen company in TX a few months ago....Basically saying...."Hey while you guys are re-doing your site....why don't you show these CI's some love and give them some backlinks."  He said he'd take a look into possibly doing it, but most manufacturers couldn't give a rat's ass about the integrators who are keeping their doors open....Except to cash their checks...

I'd love it if the manufacturers would share the link wealth, but most don't and they're probably never going to.....

That's what will benefit my customers...When they're the one getting backlink juice from Control4 rather than the other way around.

Go to the dealer section of Control4...Type in an zip code...This is what I get when I tick any dealer.

Not beating up Control4 because in reality, they're one of the best out there..

I dont think Julie is suggesting a link back to C4's website, just using the Control 4 brand name in verbiage on the site. I only see it once on the "home" page and you link back to the manufacturer... I would do an internal link and build a control 4 specific page within my own site.

That's one way to handle it.   I know he's a Control4 dealer, you know he's a Control4 dealer...the only people who don't know he's a Control4 dealer (and don't care) are the people actually purchasing the system..

A very small percentage of customers have ever heard of Control4 until they purchase it from us, and I'd care to bet that if we called them right now and asked them what the name of it was, they still wouldn't know. The same goes for any of the products that you guys sell on a daily basis.  Let's look at some of the best brands in the industry  Monitor Audio, Kef, Def Tech,   very few of our customers ever heard of them.....

So, to be cost effective I promote the "lifestyle" on the pages...Then if one of my clients decides to go to Savant or Crestron etc...I can change a blurb or two (at no charge to my client) make a couple of changes to the SEO, and voila!  everyone is happy, and haven't had to pay for pages to be rebuilt.

Now, I understand what you're saying...."But how does that help him in the rankings..."

Here's one of my customers rankings when we use keywords "Home Automation"  and "Control 4".  He ranks in the #1 position for organic search on both of them..So, if a customer searches for smart home, smart home automation, home automation or Control4 or Control 4.  He's ranks in the #1 spot.

This is all controlled on the backend of the site.
