Thanks... I'm ok, but part of town is a real mess.  Everyone was just starting to get back to normal after the fire, and now the mudslides this morning are going to make an even bigger impact.

I'm not sure what's been show on national news, but last I heard there were 8 confirmed deaths and lots of property damage.

The slides were centered in Montecito right where my client base is located.  Most of them had evacuated and I have updates to know they are safe, but haven't been able to reach several.  A large part of Montecito is still without power and there's lots of infrastructure damage so I'm not able to connect to check surveillance cameras at any of the properties I think might be affected.

The freeway is covered with mud & debris in a few places and all my projects are either shut down due to evacuations, don't have power, or I just can't get to them.

How much rain did you get?/ They were saying 5" was possible. Just a crazy cycle this year.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

I think less than 2" at my house which is closer to the ocean, but the mountain areas saw much more.

A couple properties coming back online with power & internet in the last hour and starting hear back from some clients that I've been worried about.  Most of it's very bad news...

I don't know anyone that's been injured, but have at least one client who's home is a total loss.

You guys just don’t seem to catch a break.

I was out in California
Where I hear they have it all
They got riots, fires and mud slides
They got sushi in the mall
Water bars and Brontosaurs
Chinese modern lust
Shake and bake life with the quake
The secret's in the crust

Hey Paul

Glad you and your family are safe.

We didn't get that much rain here (about 4 hours north of you in San Jose) but it was a steady downpour all night and there's much concern for the folks in Sonoma county. I don't think they had too many problems, your terrain is much steeper down there and the north bay is used to a lot of rain.

Lots of clients stuck at their homes because roads are impassable and most are without electricity, gas, water, etc.  Most of the properties have generators, but they're not running because of damage to the natural gas lines.

All my current projects are inaccessible... only confirmation from one client so far who's house is a total loss.  Many other properties weren't occupied or were evacuated and it's not been possible yet to get back to the properties to check for damage.

Just got to LA with my son yesterday for our trip. You would never know that these things are happening. Great weather til we leave Sunday. So big and so much to do. Meeting some interesting people through Uber, which is brilliant here by the way. My driver this morning said you had five years of drought followed by a ton of rain? Going to the beach now. A nice change of scenery coming from north of Toronto.

I don't know if the mudslides here are even making it on national news anymore, but it's been a big catastrophe locally.  The slides happened one week ago today and 20 people are dead and 3 still missing including a 2 year old girl.

Everyone has been affected in at least some way.  Many people know someone who's been injured or killed and almost everyone knows someone who's had property damage.  Access to Montecito is still restricted and they're still working on damage assessment, but seems to be around 100 homes destroyed and 200 more with damage.

I have two clients with homes destroyed (one I've shared photos and video of here on the message board), and many more with some extent of damage.  All of my clients with extensive damage were lucky enough to have evacuated and weren't at home when it happened.  Many of them still aren't really sure how bad their damage is.

Lots of homes are still without utilities (power, water, gas, internet), but I've started to see a few properties come back online which means electric & internet services have been restored .

The freeway has been closed since the accident and expected to remain closed for at least another week.  All the surface streets are also shut down and inaccessible so there's absolutely no way to drive south of Santa Barbara or North of Summerland without taking a detour which makes what's usually a 20-25 minuter drive take 5-6 hours.

The train is running now, but very crowded and seeing delays so people that have been trying to take the train to work or to meet family have also been spending hours traveling a short distance.  Two of the whale watching boats are running a ferry service to help people get around the landslide area by water.

Because of the difficulty with travel, most businesses have lots of employees not able to get to work and deliveries have been delayed and erratic.  All my current projects are completely cut off by the mudslides (roads closed, bridges destroyed) and will be at least another week before I can get back to any of them.

Looks like it's going to be a long time before things are back to normal!

Its still being covered a bit. Its HORRENDOUS. Just awful. Coverage has moved back to bashing the administration as a headline as you might have guessed. An occassional mention of the slides now and again.

SO glad you were not working there when it happened, even though in middle of the night. Fire and tornado's appear to be an easier clean up from what I can tell. Never seen anything like it! Just terrible. I feel for all those folks involved.

You certainly can trust the media to go off on the president, rather than report on something important, it's just what they do. I am surprised they haven't blamed him in some way.

I know this is bad, but I also know it's the norm for California. Fires, then rain and mudslides.

Sucks....
