I've got a situation where I need to extend the range of an RC71, RC73, and the like. Years ago I implemented a simple passive extender that consisted of a quarter wave piece of bare RG6 center conductor at each end of a piece of RG6. For that I need to know the RF frequency.

So the quarter wave monopole for a DirecTV RC71 type remote is 3.06 cm or 1.2 inches.

What sort of range does your passive repeater yield? How close to the monopole are the transmitters and receivers? How long is the coax?

This was done about ten years ago with the Marantz RC5200, a version of the original Pronto. I say that to emphasize that it was NOT used with a Zigbee product, so I have no info on how that might work. I'm willing to try it now that I see the new DirecTV remotes are Zigbee. The house where I'm thinking about using this has the DirecTV Video Bridge in the garage, about as far as possible from the Den and Master Bedroom (where the DVR is) as possible, so a passive antenna between garage and Den (Master Bedroom is directly above the Den) might help things. That depends on another thing, though. With wireless clients, do the remotes communicate with the DVR or with the wireless video bridge? I'm not sure. See [Link: remotecentral.com] about that. Cable was about sixty feet, monopoles were about 45 feet apart. The remotes had no dead spots but were only used more or less in a straight line between the monopoles.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but I did not know that the new DirecTV remotes were Zigbee devices, so when you didn't bother to use a definitive word to tell what you were talking about, I didn't know what you were talking about.
This site has a lot of technical discussions, and one of the easiest ways to screw up technical communication is to use "it" and "that" and "they" in a way that's not clear, instead of naming the actual subject.

First, Edizzle had just told you it’s zigbee. Then I provided a link from Solid Signal where they explained the new remotes are Zigbee RF4CE. Then I provided a link from Zigbee for detailed information on RF4CE and how RF4CE is specifically a zigbee technology. It was very clear for anyone else.
