Hi,

I hope there's a simple answer. I have a Terk LF-30S wireless A/V transmitter and IR repeater (I just use it for the IR repeater function). Skipping the extraneous detail, I am trying to control two Sony components (STR-DA5ES receiver and a 3-4 year old DVD player, not sure of model) and a Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8000HD HD-DVR cable box, all of which I use in my living room and have wired for video and sound to my bedroom (I have an MX-500 for each room).

I'm trying to avoid hard wiring a Xantech or Niles system, or shelling out for an MX-600 (as it is, RF signals don't like to work in my apartment).

The Terk does work--I've used it successfully to control all three components.

Problem: It only has one 1/8" (3.5mm) IR emitter jack, and no built in emitter. Not surprisingly, the components don't respond when the flasher isn't directly attached to their respective IR sensors.

I've tried (1) a Niles IRB-1 and (2) a Radio Shack 1/8" mono splitter with a Niles MF1 and the Terk flasher, but in both cases only the DVR box responded to the Niles units. I don't know if the Niles flashers are incompatible with Sony products, or with the Terk, but they don't work.

I'm hoping there's either (1) another brand flood flasher or (2) another brand double mini flasher that I can couple with the Radio Shack splitter that will work. According to Terk tech support, this should be possible, but they refused to say more than "go to your local electronics store."

Anyone have any suggestions? Is this a lost cause and, if so, what approach should I try next? Your help is most appreciated. I've made great progress doing my own speaker and RG-6 wiring (for both the DVR and the DVD) between rooms, only to fall short when it came to the IR.

Thanks in advance,

Dan the Grateful Newbie

xantech 286M Dual mouse emmiter. Make sure the polarity is correct on the plug. This emitter has two emmiter wired in paralell.

Thank you very much!

I've ordered a 284M instead (I'm concerned that the visible feedback light will blink due to interference and annoy me--I don't have the components in a closed cabinet, so I actually cover all the indicator lights I can with tiny pieces of electrical tape). I hope it works.
