Looking at recommending a new 75" to replace an old Panasonic 60" plasma.
Last year I installed a few 930's and a Z9, they had great pic's, especially the Z9!
This client can't afford the Z9, but want to give them the best in their budget. I'm thinking of the 850E, 900E or the 940E, if it's worth the extra money. Does anyone have any thoughts or input?

You didn't say which Panasonic 60" plasma he's trying to replace.
That's a large variance in picture quality, as Panasonic had some cheap POS models that even a Vizio these days could equal now. But they also had some top models that would be hard to beat in picture quality to this day (minus viewing 4K HDR content).

If the Z9 is out of budget, then I would certainly push for one of the 9 series.
The 850 looks OK; but if he had a top-of-the-line Panasonic from the last batch (i.e. TC-P65ZT60), then he might be disappointed. Because that would be a hard one to beat.

Sorry, I don't know the Panny model. Just from knowing the client it's probably not the higher end model, more mid level.

Then the mid level Sony 850 might be fine for him, for an upgrade to 4K. Which I assume is the reason he's replacing it.

I would check on that Panny model number thou. Don't want to hear "you know, my plasma looked a little better" "can we take this one back and try the next model up?"

I replaced my 60GT50 with a 65X930E this last fall. The Sony is better in every way, and it wasn't close. I would be willing to bet even an 850 would have been better.

The earlier plasma sets were only 1024 wide. We sold the Fujitsu plasma sets and, while they still have many nice aspects (nice scaler and blacks), the picture looks a little coarse by today’s standards.

Yup but the prices are good. I recently installed a 75” 940 and it was easily the best looking large format LCD that I’ve personally experienced. Everyone has their preferences, I personally don’t own a single LCD. I certainly can stand the edge lit panels. So I generally only recommend the three that your looking at or the oled.

The 940 is a LED. At least on line specs claim that.

850 series is edge lit. thats why I try to stick to the 900's

It is pretty good for an edge light though.

prices are good! just hard sell and hard to explain why the 940 is $1300 more than the 900.....tough to swallow for most people
