System: Yamaha RX-V483 Rec., LG 55UJ6300, Samsung SMC-C5320cable box, Amazon Firestick

The cable box will not pass audio to the Yamaha. I Tried 3 cable boxes, 2 receivers, numerous HDMI cable Vanco premium have worked fine for me

TV works perfectly. Cable works directly into the TV. No audio through the receiver. . The local cable company is only issuing these boxes now and no longer uses the SA boxes
The Firestick works perfectly thru all of the receivers HDMI inputs

Did this as a favor for an old customer whose Rear proj DLP and Onkyo gave up the ghost.

Yamaha is escalating and I'm awaiting a call back

Any suggestions?

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and a good Festivus to all

I've only worked with the RX-A line and have no issue with the audio from Samsung boxes passing. Does the RX-V line have video processing settings that can be turned on or off? I believe they label it Direct or Processing in the menu on the RX-A line. Just wondering if something is getting mucked up there. Have you changed the audio modes as well?

Also, have you checked the audio settings in the Cable Box menu? I don't remember as they are set correctly by default in our cable system here, but I believe they have a Dolby setting and a stereo settings. I've seen issues when it was set incorrectly here in the past.

Just noticed you are in NY. Is Cablevision the provider? That is who I have on the majority of my jobs and have not had the issue as I stated above.

Have you tried this with the amazon streaming stick being removed from the AVR? I have experienced issues with the POS knocking out HDMI on Marantz and Sony AVRs. Sounds similar to the issues I was having. Remove the stick and all was well.

Not sure why, but I refuse to install amazon streaming devices because of it.

The RXV range can have video processing on-board, but it starts at the RXV683... the RXV483 has no video processing.

Thanks for the responses.
The solution is:
It turned out the RX-V483s were the problem. Either it was defective or it did not play well with the Samsung cable box. What threw me was two brand new RXVs  were bad in the same way. It could be they were part of a bad production batch. Switched them out for a Sony receiver and I was up and working in 20 minutes. I still like the Aventage line but I will stay away from the RXVs for a while. I will also give Sony a look.

Does the RXV series have the advanced menu to change the HDMI setting on monitor check to skip? That has solved some HDMI problems for us with the Adventage series.

Yup - it does.
It would have most likely solved this issue, it's in the manual under the Advanced Menu settings. Very handy.

I didn't notice monitor settings in the Advanced setting menu BUT it did work with the Amazon Firestick. I spoke to Yamaha as well and they said I needed to get the receiver checked but I returned them (the  receivers, not the Firestick) both. No problems with the Aventage line.

So, did you check the cable box audio settings? It's possible the Sony accepts the audio signal differently than the Yamaha did.

The cable box audio was set to 5.1 dolby digital which sends audio HDMI, the digital and analogue outputs. The other option was labeled other which did not help. I should have checked the other setting through the Sony but I did not. I will when and if they are willing to get me back for the remote control they need but don't want to spring for yet. One thing I tried was using the blue tooth feature to stream some music from my phone to the system and it was simple and straight forward. Sounded good as well.
