Client will have a reception desk in their office with two doors behind it, each 10'h x 2.5'w. (Door thickness and construction is TBD.) The doors lead to a mechanical closet and will seldom be opened. The client has this concept that the top 6' or so of each door will be a digital display surface, and I need to figure out how to achieve this.

One concept we discussed is to inlay a large LED panel in each door. Another concept was to suspend a short throw projector from the ceiling in front of the doors. (In either case, BrightSign devices would probably be used to provide content.) There is no room for a projector behind the doors.

Overall, we hope for the solution to be nice and clean, produce a bright image and be reliable. They are looking to me for guidance on design and budget. Any ideas?
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

Are these doors supposed to be interactive or just looking for images to be displayed??

Interactive= Touch Monitor like ELO

Images= Projectors like Epson that can be hung vertically by the horizontal plane.

How long will the doors be in place? Is a projection system likely to last? Will the displays be on 24-7?

The displays do not need to be touch.

They will be on 10 hours a day.

We are looking for a long term solution.

Ambient lighting will be typical of an office space.

Thanks.

I would lean towards doing Monitor displays custom built in to the doors. Less Maintenance, easily handle 10 hours a day and will overcome any ambient light issues.

“Marketing content” from a Brightsign player. The exact content will change over time.

Low budget... assuming doors swing out, mount a 65" display to one door, which hangs in front of the other door. Other door is fixed door, meaning the mounted to door has to be opened first to access lock pins holding fixed door closed.
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.

The thought of doors that are customed out to fit a certain size television that will play 10 hours per day… He will be replacing and re-customing those doors every 3 to 5 years when the TV fails, and the new model doesn’t fit in the old cut out…

Maybe if you put glass on those doors, and mounted the television behind the glass, in the future the television replacement would be more forgiving/le$$ painful.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

+1

This make the most sense to me. Easy to hang, and easier to to keep the wiring nightmare to a violent storm...

LG has a lot of commercial options and sizes to allow you to configure just about anything you might want. They also offer digital signage controllers.
I am not a dealer, but have been on site where there were some pretty unique displays being used.

I don't see the big deal with a custom solution. If the TV dies, you get to do custom work again.

What's the problem?? And please tell me how many of the TV's nowdays just die after a year or so. Shit, one of my rooms is still rocking an EDTV Plasma from Zenith from 2004-5.

By the time the TV dies, company will most likely be out of business anyways.
