Was on line with Marantz tech support today for another issue and discussed this with him.
"The reason we usually go with cables first is that similar to other data transmitting cables it's not 18gbps it's UP TO 18gbps. You don't always get the full 18gbps depending on the cable. It can vary between manufacturers and even similar cables from the same manufacturer. This is why Apple recommends 48gbps cables to use with their new 4K Apple TV."
I havn't heard anyone mentioning using a 48gb/s cable. Perhaps this info can help with ATV4k installs.
Well, there was that one thread that told us we can throw out our 18gbps cables, now that we've just installed them (

And there's a lesson for EVERY kind of transaction in today's world: UP TO means everything
except exactly the spec they're about to quote. And of course our brains hear the spec and miss the lie.
I once went round and round with a Verizon land line CSR about the speed of the DSL they were providing me. She said it was up to 3 mb. That's the only definition she would give me. In frustration, I finally said, "listen, I have up to three million dollars in my pocket. Now, in reality I have seven bucks, but, see, that's included in "up to" three million. Now what is the minimum that you guarantee?"
You see this in stores, too, where everything is on sale for... up to... 70% off. MENDACIOUS PREVARICATORS, I say!
