URC MX-990 Comcast Code 202 acting like Code 195 still there

I thought I had this fixed months ago when I updated the Comcast URC code to 202.
(Sample) Favorite Channel Macro:
9
.2 sec delay
0
.2 sec delay
6
.2 sec delay
enter
Symptom:
It might instead appear as 90006 on the DVR. Database code set: 202 ( I had similar symptoms when I first installed the MX-990 about 10 months ago...using code 195.)

I kept this on the IR blaster from months ago as part of a troubleshooting step.
I didn't have any emitters with me today when I visited, but I don't think the IR blaster would cause this intermittent symptom. (It's never that easy.) I can disable the blaster and install an emitter on the cable box, but that almost seems like a waste of time.

No RF interference detected.

MRF-350 is about 6"- 8" from the cable box. The antenna is about 10"-12" from the cable box.

The problem only seems to occur once in about 20 attempts on the Favorite channels.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Try setting the IR minimum repeats to 1

Select the button
Double click the IR code showing in the Macro window
Unselect repeat while pressed
Adjust minimum repeats to 1

Move the MRF-350 away from the equipment. I never have it closer than 3 feet. I believe URC recommends this, too.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Both great ideas! I will apply both as potential solutions on my next visit. I still suspect there are code 195 codes lurking around in there, too.

One thing I have seen on several jobs that I was called in to fix was the guy would build his macros using the record button then add any fixes or tweaks using the ir database so that when I changed any equipment say fios to spectrum I would have to look at all the macros and key assignments for any that he dragged and dropped from the database because those would not change by changing the code set.
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

I finally was able to go back to the customer's home tonight and try a few solutions:
1) I installed an emitter to the Comcast STB and removed the IR blaster.
2) With the help of URC tech support, I removed numerous traces of code 195 that were still lurking on the CCP program. All were replaced with code 202. For example, the "enter" key was not overwritten with code 202. It was still code 195.
3) I moved the MRF350 and it's antenna at least 2 feet from the cable box.
----You guessed it...problem still persists.
I have tested my own MX990 at my own home with one of my MRF350 sytems, using the client's CCP program. Problem does not duplicate after testing over 40 favorite channel macros.
I am down to suspecting the customer's cable box (and/or it's firmware). My instincts tell me that's wrong. It is not a DVR, but neither is the unit in my own home. My own STB has no brand, but model is RNG150N. The customer's STB is a Pace PX022ANM (AKA: XG2v2-P). It has the same symptom on code 195 or 202. The only difference between the client's system and mine is the STB. Getting desperate! HELP!

It's a Pace box. A google search for RNG150N autocompletes with the words "cable box" and the first article says it's a Pace box: "Get User Guides for Your TV Box - Xfinity" links to [Link: xfinity.com] where it's named as such.

Oddly, the second response to that search has someone asking if that model is a DVR, a subject that you bring up in passing.

I reread that the problem only occurs in one of 20 attempts. This is normal.

When the new code set boxes came out, favorites were so bad I just told clients they will no longer work. Moving forward, I did not do favorites on any new remotes I set up.

Over time, the boxes have gotten better and URC codes are now better, so I sometimes will do favorites. But I ALWAYS tell the client that the new boxes are not as bulletproof as the old, so if the favorite misfires, hit exit and retry.

Sometimes leaving ENTER out of the macro so the accuracy of the channel number can be seen before hitting ENTER may be called for.

Bottom line, these boxes/codes are not as good as they used to be. One fail in 20 I would call GOOD. Set expectations if you plan to do favorites.

The one misfire in 20 is now more like one misfire in 5. This is with the emitter replacing the IR blaster, etc. Again, I can go through 40 favorite macros on my own home system (identical except a different Pace STB) without any misfires.

Go back to the blaster. Different box than yours. Explain to the customer. Gotta be done.

SOLVED!
After a great conversation with Brett at URC, it was determined that this particular STB is extremely sensitive to IR emitter placement. I have never seen a cable box that was so fussy. Brett has. I was at the customer's home this morning and had to move the emitter about 1/4" at a time...4-5 times...before finding the sweet spot. Now I can run 80 = 100 favorite channel macros without any misfires. If it happens again, I told the customer it's time for a new STB. Brett had numerous other ides to try, but this was the last thing on the list to try. Thanks to all who posted great ideas in an effort to solve the problem.
THANKS TO BRETT K AT URC FOR THE GREAT SUPPORT!

Hank at URC wanted me to add that "IR overload" is the accurate description of this issue. I have experienced IR overload many times in the past, but this STB was extremely sensitive. Thanks, Hank! We really appreciate your support as well!

Hello, all! I am a retired CI now. This customer reached out to me recently as their set to box was replaced by Comcast. The Comcast installer tried to place the emitter on the sweet spot of the set top box, but it didn't last. This time, I don't blame the Comcast guy. This is a tough one.
Once I placed the emitter in the sweetest spot I could find, it still misfired on the Favorite channels at least 10% of the time. Customer claims it really never was 100% after I left a few years ago.
Since I am retired, I don't have many resources. However, this is an elderly couple with some mild cognitive issues. TV is their main entertainment. No one else in town that has URC experience. They need help, if possible.
Is there a better set of Comcast codes (other than 195 or 202) made available since 2017 to resolve the issue described at the beginning of this thread? These codes are far from bullet proof...with this box. Thanks in advance.

I have done dozens and dozens of these and post 8 still applies.

It’s one of those “can’t polish a turd” situations.

If they want to go to favorite channels, have them grab the Comcast remote and use the microphone button like a walkie-talkie. Go to whatever channel, and be done with it.

Sounds a lot like the Arris 3600-M boxes. Rarely are the correct codes in the URC database.
