I have a customer that wants to mount a plasma outside on the patio. It will be under the patio, facing south. Tempature ranges from 20 to 110 rain, snow, tornadoes. Any ideas? I'm assuming that the life of the plasma will be shortened, by how much I dont know. We plan on covering it up when not in use. I dont think its a good idea, but customer wants it. What do you think?
thanks cb1

A number of companies make enclosures to protect displays located in exterior locations, for example, [Link: displaydevices.com]This is hardly the only company making such devices. Alan

I know some hot tubs have a power lifted 42" plasma TV option so I would guess that is a VERY harsh environment - might see if you can find out what they use to protect the TV. $30k+ for a hot tub? Crazy!

I've done a few outdoor TVs and had the same concerns as well. I figured LCD was the better canidate considerind there in cars, atms etc. and live just fine. I have one 37" Aquos that been in the cold and heat for about a year and still living just fine.
So maybe a LCD would be a safer bet.
Good luck. Bob

Put a pair of speakers underwater in a customers indoor pool. Put a projector above a pool in the backyard of a custoemr projecting onto a presentation portable screen so you can watch movies on a 100" screen in the pool. Projector and Screen were removed after every use! And the list could go on all day with 11 years of doing this crap. I should write a book.
