If you don't know it's a hub box that you control with their App in place of a remote. Sold for a $100 from 2011 to 2015ish.

Security certificate expiration, bricking March 16th, apparently won't function at all after that. Offering a $35 credit to buy their new hub (amazon $90). So generous.

the product only had a “small user base.” ...so cough up a free Hub.

At least they are openly admitting it. My iPhone mysteriously gets slower and crap stops working before it's time for an update. So I update. The update is so huge I have less storage. Eventually I have no choice but to get a new phone.

I know I know. Don't buy an iPhone and technology advances and you can't expect them to carry along the old while improving the new at the same . I'm to lazy to change. I'd rather just complain.

Harmony is no better in this case, but at least they're honest about it.

Craig.

Harmony Link and Harmony Hub are 2 different devices.

Link is getting discontinued.

They just announced that they're going to upgrade everybody for free.

I'm pretty cynical, but I think this was the plan to increase the number of Hub adopters.

I bet Logitech makes money from data collection, from the Hub. Just like every other hub.

If that's the case then that's a good thing.

Lots of people/companies make bad decisions. What they do afterwards is a big deal.

How does updating all the Links increase the number of people using the Hub? As you said, those are different models. I don't see how one day's panic over a Link becoming inoperational will make people change models.

If one really wants to be cynical, this whole episode was planned.

The true mettle of a company shows when something goes wrong and how the company handles the cleanup. Logitech seemed to stumble when they suddenly announced EOL for Link. Then they followed with a grand gesture to make good. This will yield lots of low cost publicity and loyal customers.

...as well as flush out a bunch of professional and amateur skeptical naysayers.

Let me just lift this cogent comment from another thread:

Add the number of former link users to the number of hub users- people would need to abandon their remotes if they left Harmony and those who have Harmony tend to like it.
