I recently needed to get a power supply for use with an SL-5 SWiM LNB. When I spoke with the dealer, I told him I wanted to get an extra LNB and a 21 volt supply for it. He said, "21 volt, 29 volt, either one will work." That sounded odd, but when I picked it up, I realized that he only had stock on 29 volt supplies (he's a LARGE commercial dealer and installer). I've learned to be uncomfortable buying from companies when "what you need is the single sku we happen to have in the back room."

One reason I'm asking is that it took at least twice as long for the satellite receiver to become operational. It acted funny. For instance, the signal meters told me the signal was GREAT but it kept giving me a 722 message. And it worked fine, though slow at downloading, after I went into satellite setup and did nothing... it was set to SWM and I clicked on SWM... it then jumped to the next step and continued to set itself up.

The system has only an HR24-500, and LNB, the power supply, and a 100 foot run of solid copper RG6.

Have you ever heard of a receiver acting weird this way, or seen a problem using a 29 volt supply on an LNB?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

29 works fine. I won't even take a 21 anymore because of the failure rate. You will be fine

Ah, it's great to find out that the 21s fail without having to suffer through it! Thanks for your help.

Acting weirdly. It's an adverb. :D

Languages change. One big irritation for linguists is that the kind of person who becomes a linguist, whose daily work is peppered with the changes of language, probably had English teachers who pushed the false concept that languages don't change. Every time a teacher says "there's only one correct way," they're denying that languages change.

I'll bet if I had said "it's acting funny," you would not have told me to say " it's acting funnily." Yet funny and weird are both adjectives.
