Well at least 9 to 5 Mac agrees “My first impressions of the OLED screen are that the improvements are a little overblown. Yes, it’s a very, very nice display. It looks great. But, in all honesty, so does the IPS LCD screen on older iPhones.”

“One specific issue identified in early reviews was the more limited viewing angle of an OLED screen, with dimming and color shifts when viewed more obliquely. I tested this by comparing against my iPhone SE, viewing from a variety of angles.
And yes, this is dramatic. The LCD screen continues to look bright and natural from even 45 degrees, while the OLED of the iPhone X starts to dim and shift into blue tones almost immediately you turn it away from you. The difference is marked at even 15 degrees or so, and by 45 degrees it looks muddy and, well, awful.”

“The switch to OLED does have one other implication for me. I work from home, and my iPhone normally sits on a dock on my desk, switched on and on the homescreen, so I have convenient access to any apps I might want to use. However, as OLED screens can suffer burn-in, Apple specifically recommends against leaving the phone on with the same image displayed for long periods of time.

Apple does refer to high-contrast images at high brightness levels, so perhaps I’m being over-cautious, but I have seen some ugly burn-in on other OLED screens, so I’m going to play safe.”

Here is an idea for you. Print pictures. Holding an actual photo still has a much bigger impact than looking at it on a phone.

Yes, that will really help determining which screen is better! LOL

Lol iOS has tons of bugs. Especially since 11 hit. It’s worst I’ve ever seen it. Have people messaging me all the time complaining too. For me the most annoying are test messages that show blank a lot and have to force quit and reopen to see the text. The words delivered and times will show but text is gone.

What other bugs? I have definitely not noticed what you are describing. Maybe carrier related? But I really can’t remember any other items that standout either.

How does that work? Do they install a protected App that is disabled as you leave the building?

The camera on an iPhone, at least, can be disabled in the Settings app. Using Restrictions. The passcode does not have to be the same as the main passcode for the phone.

There is a local 3rd party phone store that disables the camera for employees of th company that I work. Provide a note saying the camera is disabled along with serial number and such.

The downfall, is that the camera is disabled forever. Until I go back to the store to have them enter the passcode.

+1

Upgraded from a 7s? To the 10. Wife got the 8 because she didn’t like the thought of loosing the home button.

I know this sounds stupid, but I gotta ask.

I work at a secured place where camera enabled phones are not allowed. So in order for me to be allowed to take my phone with me, I have to have the camera disabled by someone else.

Before a buy an iPhone X, can one of you who has it do a test? Go to Settings —> General —> Restrictions —> click them On and create a passcode. Then disable the camera, FaceTime should disable with it. And finally test the FaceID, does it still work? If it doesn’t, then I guess I wouldn’t be getting the phone.

Thanks,

KOT

Just tried this. It just removed the Camera App icon. I was still able to use FaceID!

Ohh it was awful on my 7”s” on the 8 and X it’s pretty flawless. It’s the older phones running ios11 that is painfully buggy. Just the normal “break” everyone’s phones so they get new ones.

Has it ever occurred to you that people respond to threads on their phones? Ever heard of auto correct?

(Yes we all should proofread but sometimes on a small screen you miss things)

Why? Just why? Second time this past week you've done this with the same word. Does it just make you feel better?

Here we go with the BS. Iphone fanbois love them their apple gear. Android fanbois love them their Android gear. I just go with what works. I've had them all They are all buggy. Android, I can use a phone from 5 years ago with no issue and all apps work. Iphone, I couldn't install new apps on a phone I was still paying on my 2 year contract. I have 2 iPads that can barely run basic website viewing. The specs are not overwhelmingly out of date, they are just forcefully laid to rest via software issues (updates). Iphone battery is better and they usually have apps and integration out before Android, but overall Android has lasted longer and worked better for me. I don't love everything about it but I do feel less "locked in" with Android.

BTW, if you switch from iPhone to Android, you might run into the issue I had where my phone number was locked into my Apple ID account and I could not receive texts on my new phone. Took a while to figure out wth was going on and get apple to release it.

No this is definitely an iOS bug and from what I have seen over the years diff people have diff issues. Not everyone seems to have the same bug. That particular blank message bug except for saying delivered and the iMessage header with time carried over from my 7 plus to my X and from iOS 11 on up thru 10 betas, then 11.0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 11.1, 11.2 beta 1 and 2.

Heres a google search with articles on the buggy iOS 11 topic. [Link: google.com]

I've had another bug for awhile where you go into photos... tap the share arrow and type in the persons name you want it text it too and it'll hang there for eternity. Gotta force quit and try again.

I wish i had a link to an article I found before where someone found like 600 user interface issues in iOS 11 and document them all. While maybe not bugs, it was mind blowing. Wrong placement of this or an error with that, wrong font here, etc.

Here is another issue. For the last 6 years Wifi Sync with iTunes just never f'ing works. For anyone I know. Airdrop is a piece of $hit too and rarely works properly.
