Sometimes when I'm working at my desk, I get a text that requires an answer. I'd LOVE to be able to bang out a response on my computer and send it to... the phone's text system.

"Conversations" like this often should be kept in the same medium so the question and answer are together. That, and I'm A LOT faster on a keyboard than on a phone.

I've accidentally discovered that if I send a text to someone's email address, it shows as coming from [myphonenumber]@vtext.com. My carrier is Verizon.

It seems the formula for Verizon is to send to an email address from [myphonenumber]@vtext.com. When I address a text to an email address, it goes through just fine.

Has anyone else got any interest in this? I don't know if it's very useful and I have ZERO idea if there are charges from sending from one system to another.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Apple incorporates this into iOS and macOS. You can start a text/email from your mobile device and finish it on your laptop/desktop, etc.

Edit: As far as I know, there aren't additional charges with AT&T on what you described above. I've done it before without additional charges/fees.

Hey, I just sent my first text about a month ago, on my first ever cell phone that I'd gotten only about a month before that.

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

So what's the method you use to send texts to your people when you're at your computer? Do you pick up your phone?

I'm asking this seriously.

edit: PS. A reason why your criticisms don't bother me is that you never show that you know how to do what I'm asking about.

Ernie, open this on your PC, lot in, and send me $0.001 for every text you send for next 14 months as royalty.

The whole point of text is to keep things succinct. Ernie, they are texting you because the DONT WANT your 5 paragraph diatribe on the history of the universe. They want a quick answer. Learn to type on your phone...you will be better for it.

You'll not find a perfect answer for text messages. Apple's come the closest, as you can sync iMessage between phones / tablets / macs, but its not perfect.

For intra-team comm's you should look at Slack / Teams. Easy to use apps for all likely devices, lots of features to organize conversations, search history, share desktops and documents, etc.

Texts from customers are harder to deal with. Maybe get a bluetooth keyboard and keep it handy?

That explains why everyone has been trying to get him to get a twitter account. 🙂

Text messaging is for teenage girls.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

A BT keyboard is a great investment Ernie. Get one with nearly full sized keys. It's a great time saver and you might even use it for emails so you don't have to fire up your pc.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I just got one of these last week and so far I really like it: Logitech Bluetooth Multi-Device Keyboard K480. It holds the device at a nice angle and the yellow groove is a tacky, rubbery material that holds the device well.

If you want to solve your problem this is what you do. When someone sends you a text about work related things just respond with "k". Doesn't matter if it is a question or a statement or a photo of an invoice. Just respond with "k".

Always! Only! Respond with "k". Never follow up. Pretend the text never existed.

When the person tries to follow up in person just look puzzled and pretend that you have no idea what they are talking about.

If and When you finally get an email about the issue...respond like its the first time you are being made aware of the issue. Do anything you can to respond and resolve the issue via email.

Continue to ignore texts, in person follow ups, voice mails.

It is 2017. No one should be leaving you a voice mail or sending you a fax or a letter via snail mail. Texts are for your personal life. Email or collaboration software is the way that businesses should be communicating.
