A contractor I know has just called to outline a sudden add-on that's needed for a residence: a speaker in the celiing of a shower.
It's a massive remodel so we cen tell them what it has to be, and for starters I want to use single point stereo speaker (we'll use three more single points in an adjacent room that don't have to be the same model).
Any product suggestions?
Thanks.

Our most "Extreme" install is a pair of Sonance built into a shower seat. Sealed steam shower. Going on 4 years now they still sound great. We had to go back and install backboxes to get rid of some of the boom created by the open cavity shower seat that they were installed in. [Link: sonance.com]

Have a look at the Sonance Extreme series, which as i understand are made for marine environments so should be hardy in that they would be built to deal with water + corrosive salt.

I used a Sonance Extreme DVC in a closed shower and it's been working for maybe 9 years without issue..

origin with their marine rated hardware kit. Got model numbers? Their site is horrid and that home page deserves a mention at www.websitesthatsuck.com... which is a real and serious website. Thanks to others. At the moment the choice seems to be Sonance, always a good choice. Niles doesn't seem to be making the speakers (for which no model numbers were given, hint, hint, nudge, nudge) that Fred refers to.

Have builder treat the speaker enclosure just like a pool light -- sealed on all sides.

Monitor Audio, perhaps? [Link: monitoraudio.com]Builder may want a single light over the shower, or a fan, so 2 speakers might be better. Square or round ceiling lights?

We’ve used Niles, speakercraft, Boston, monitor, and B&W for this. Probably more that I can’t think of. Shower speaker is a standard. We make sure it’s a driver that is made of a Nonporous material.

Oh, Good Gawd, Magnum!
Just found out this is a designer-driven installation. Someone showed the client pictures of "flangeless" speakers with grilles that just stick on the front of the speaker. Client says "that's what I want." Sheesh. How scientific. How promising of great fidelity.
A look at the Sonance model (VP65R SST XT) seems to show that it's what the client had in mind. Do any of the other models you've suggested seem to fit this bill?
