Really like the Veto open top tool bag. Priced around 180.00 There must be something similar out there priced between that and the home center Husky types that just don't cut it. 180 is not a deal breaker, but around a 100 would be nice.

I’m a serious Veto kool aid drinker. I’ve had 2 pro pac XLs, and just got the tec pac LT and a pro pac xxl-f. The tec pac has been a real game changer for me.

Stick with Veto.  I was going through "cheap" bags about every year so the reason I tried them years ago was because of the 5 year warranty.

My first XXL was $250 and after 3 years the zipper started to tear a little.  They sent me a brand new one and I used the package it came in to send the old one back.  I've had this one for over 5 years now and no issues.  They stood behind their product and their warranty.

The open top Veto is somewhere between the open top models that others have linked to above and a home depot bucket. What i mean by that is the bottom is hard plastic and water proof and the sides wont cave in on you so you always have easy access to whats inside. The soft side tool bags always lose their shape or soak up water if you put them down on a wet surface.

If you go with the veto you wont ever have to buy another open top tool carrier again.

Knock-offs...

Stanley for $50 [Link: amazon.com]

This one is just over $100 [Link: amazon.com]

Try searching for "open top" or "open mouth" carriers or bags. Lots of them but most dont have a plastic bottom or they have a zipper top.

Going Veto. Everything else just copies each other. Like the slight flare of the sides for viewing and accessibility. Size is right. And it's not so much like a bag. Also like the middle compartment and container. The Klein and Green look ok and are priced right, but missing just a little on the above design elements I like.

Mac, I like the shipping note on the first one you linked: Usually ships within 1 to 2 months. :-)
I know you just posted a link to item not necessarily recommending the seller.

I like the open tops.
I know those of you that travel (airplanes) for work need closed top.
Some had issues with tools being borrowed/stolen, so closed top it nice.

I don't use my bag when I do roughins. I bring in a sharpy and cutters and off I go.
At trimouts, my bag stays with me (I don't use belt pouches).

I'm also a one man shop so no co-workers asking me borrow my tools. If I bring a once-a-year helper, I know they'll be using my tools.

Open top allows me see everything and my tote never rolled or fell while driving so no worries there.

Lately i bring my closed top Veto XL and an open top CLC. The Veto has 47 pounds of hand tools in it. It used to be 35 but now i have all these specialty Stripper/Crimpers for RJ45 and Coax connectors. Crestron has a tool, RG11 has a tool LMR has a tool. Its getting pretty ridiculous.

I take out my commonly used hand tools and put them in the open top bag with parts/drill/clean up stuff etc. I take the CLC around to every room with me terminating. I use the CLC for trash also. When i am done i put the tools and parts away and dump the trash out of the CLC.

You could probably drive to the seller and pick it up faster than that :).

Amazon is great. Lots of hidden deals. I found this ridiculous deal on runner rugs for the dogs. Can't beat $1.99 [Link: amazon.com]

Milwaukee has their tote coming out, or is out. Hits your price point.

[Link: homedepot.com]

They also have a larger one
[Link: homedepot.com]

Having said that, I have a 5.00 bucket, a great 30.00 bucket bag, and a 12.00 seat that fits everything I need. I can see all tools in the outside pockets and can carry larger tools in the inside.
It's also a seat, a parts organizer and a step stool with the additional top.
Fully versatile and efficient.
Client doesnt know or care, to them you're the guy carrying tools they dont care how you're carrying them only that the job gets done.
I also have a tote like the ones described here, brand new in the truck but dont really use it because I have no need.

I have a similar CLC bag. Actually, we’ve got a few of them around the shop. They’ve held up well. The only issue I’ve found is the support for the handle starts to bend after a while and lay over. This can make it a little difficult to search the center section of the bag. I like the way the Klein has strap handles and can lay them down out of the way.

Yeah, but shipping is 10 bucks.
Can you order few/several and get free/discounted shipping?
