I just spent a couple hours dealing with HDMI extenders at my house. I had an older Key Digital kit that stopped working. I replaced it with a newer Key Digital HDBT piece which didn't help. I then switched again to an Atlona HDBT extender and still couldn't get a picture. Now Im wondering if the cable is bad. I run and get my Cat tester and the cable tests fine. I then switch to a Binary 540 series HDBT extender and bam! I have a picture! not sure what was up with the other 2 but they are now in the trash and i will be using Binary extenders from now on!

Maybe get a Binary extender and keep it as a cable tester!

The cable turned out to be good, which is great, but we've always got to remember that the simple cable testers we almost always use only tests with DC or an audio signal. In the world of data transmission, that's zero Hertz! And zero baud, etc.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I've replaced a few Key Digital pieces with Binary for the same reason.

I haven't used enough Atlona products to judge them.

I will say that the Binary extenders have always worked from the start and keep working without any issues.

This is what I use. It’s more than just a simple cable tester.

I've been good with Key Digital and Atlona. Honestly though, I don't do a ton of distributed video and I've been lucky enough on most jobs to get away with shorter hdmi runs.

I feel about binary as I do Onkyo, fool me once.

And it looks like it showed itself to be accurate. If you KNOW the cable is good, that makes it easier to KNOW the other components really aren't working.

I have to be fair and say that i've had my run ins with some of snap products here and there but the HDbaseT extenders are reliable.

I had a Binary set with a transmitter that was bad out of the box two weeks ago, but rarely have any other issues. We only use Binary or Leaf (C4) for extending HDMI.

I've also moved to Binary for extenders. They have worked everytime so far with the only exception being IR transmission.
