New Frame TVs have power and HDMI in the One Connect. It is longer and much fatter. Plan ahead on your next one.

That sounds good, but if you had planned ahead for your next one a year ago, your plan wouldn't work due to the chuffed-up One Connect.

Insist on getting the TV early in the project and give yourself some time to work around whatever stupid thing Samsung does next. And warn your client, too. Last time we had to deal with this, it was, fortunately, an older smaller One Connect, but we had to locate a cable, too, and Samsung was not very helpful.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

You can't get TV's early on anymore. Well, at least with Sony you can't, not sure about Samsung. Sony gives you 2 weeks from time YOU are invoiced to return so if you order a TV early and it's defective, they won't take it back. It SHOULD be from time client is invoiced.

Ive done a few frames and did a q9 a few weeks ago. The q9 connect box was HUGE. Much larger. So the frame connect one is now HUGE? Ugh.

Yes, there's been a refresh to the Frame lineup and I think all the Frame TVs shipping now use the larger Connect Box.

So to enclose it behind the TV we have graduated from a 9x14" to a 14x14", now to a 18x18" or larger media box. So now the mount only gets 3 of 4 bolts, once you reframe the wall and fit the box.

The custom expense to the client is significant.

"Sir, we'll be glad to mount that new Samsung you wanted. All you have to do for us is move to a house with studs on twenty-four inch centers."

Otherwise,
The custom expense to the client is significant.

Especially if it goes on a bearing wall.

Can you properly modify a bearing wall to make an 18" wide space without putting in a header? I've been looking online, but I can't find this. There's lots of info as to how to install a header, but I don't see WHEN you need to install a header.

This is from Oct. 2017 on 65" Frame TV
If there are new boxes, I haven't seen or used them yet.

From what I have researched today, the new models include the power supply for the display in the OneConnect box, so they are substantially larger than the first edition Frame OneConnect boxes. In that video, it looks like the thing is now ~17-18" wide.

So instead of housing the one-connect vertically in a 20" enclosure that can fit between standard stud spacing - you're going to rebuild the wall so you can use an 18" x 18" box?

So, no need to reframe a wall if you use an 18-20" x 14-1/4" wide media box, a la Snap, Open House, and others.

The One Connect heavyweight measures 15-1/2" wide, 2-3/4" tall, and 6" deep.

The "deep" measurement has the HDMI connectors, One Connect jack, RJ-45, and optical connector, so leave a few inches extra there.

Earlier boxes had connections on three of the four smaller sides. On this box, that would be the 2 3/4" x 6 sides and the 2 3/4" x 15 1/2" sides. They didn't put any connectors on the 15 1/2" x 6" sides, did they?

Chunky One Connect appears in the new Q7f also.

So, let me ask a question regarding aesthetics. Say you put a 14 x 20” media box into the wall, to house the OneConnect. It is likely your TV mount is going to cover a good portion of it, are you OK leaving that media box open in the front, with no cover?

Or do you design some fashionable cover that you can somehow get off without removing the TV mount, should service be needed for something inside that box?

What manufacturer other than Samsung is using an external box currently?  I have not seen any except for the One Connect boxes.

None, The one connect is a HUGE flaw with Samsung TV's. They are not any thinner than other tvs with connectors on the back.

I'm going to leave it open.
TV will cover it and I don't have to mess with cover pushing TV away from the wall.

On jobs where they'll be hanging TV like a picture (tilting away near the top) that might change things.

Keep the cover in the equipment room for when they remove the TV (repair, change of product, etc.) so you have an option to cover the ugly enclosure.
