I thought I was the only one getting lazy!

It's like 50% lazy and 50% OCD. I have tools allover the place. So many at this point i can't even organize them...and when i do i end up having things at the office or at my house or in my car instead of where i need them. I wont even look at the tools at the office anymore because if i see them my disorder adds them to the queue of things i have to sort and organize.

I have a full on mechanics, metal fab,and woodworking shop 50 yards behind my house.

In the attached garage,I have enough tools to repair anything from cars to building a house!

I don't have many mechanics tools or "carpenter" quality tools. I have mostly AV tech stuff and battery power tools. Chop saw, table saw etc are usually whatever the cheapest tool was when i needed it that one time at a job. I recently lost a grand in tools to the rain when i left a job box outside and it filled up with water. Tools sat in water for about 2 weeks before i realized the top had a hole in it allowing rain water to get in. My first whole saw...a great hammer drill and my 75th anniversary sawzall with the chrome body all rusted out.

I have the required tools in the saddle bag of my Harley for road trips, enough tools and parts in my speed boat for emergency repairs, and all three cars have the tools most likely needed for everything but a complete overhaul!
All have a fluke multi meter.I don't leave home without one!

I'm not aware of a "one kit fits all" type of kit.
For me anyway.

Stock a kitchen drawer with your most used tools, and there you have your custom kit. Works for me, in my kitchen.

In some respects I'm not sure that a toolbox in every room would solve the problem. It seems that tools will migrate anyway. How about a child's mittens type tether to keep the tools on location.

My mom has been buying leatherman type tools as far back as i can remember. I personally don't care for them but she swears by them. Every few months shes got a new one with a new feature.

I've had the same model for 8 or so years, since i started using one. Only reason I have replaced is when its gotten worn or if I broke it. I didn't think i would care for it either at first. I didn't even buy the first one, my father in law gave it to me for Xmas. Seriously one of the best gifts I ever got.

I have a van full of tools. I have two husky tool carts in the garage with tools, and have some temp shelving setup in the basement of the new house with plastic drawers with some tools for household stuff. I have no need for more, unless I need a specialty tool that is required to accomplish something. I think most guys just like the idea of MORE tools cause tools are fun. Going to Sears Hardware, HD, Lowes, or HF and my eyes light up going down the tool aisles. I then reminds myself I have pretty much everything I need.

You can make fun of Harbor Freight all you want, but the truth is they do have some hidden gems. Sure you gotta be careful with what you buy, but a lot of hand tools and what not are a good value. I have a couple sets of wrenches I use for my car that have all worked out great. Their unibits cannot be beat for the price. Home Depot and other places, $50 for 1. HF, a pack of 2 or 3 different sized unibits, $15-$20. AND, they work as well if not better. I love the narrow width bit in the kit. It works perfectly for those situations when you need to throw a butterfly toggle bolt in a medal stud. It will drill the sheetrock and stud without making a gaping wide hole in the sheetrock that the larger diameter unibits would.

Im a big fan of their unibits, and also of their cheap fish sticks and moving blankets.

So, it's your first post, and you are quoting someone who posted a link, yet your link doesn't match the original link. Not to mention you have revived a 3 year old thread.

Yeahhhh, I don't think I'm going to be clicking that any time soon.

Good try though!
