Went and looked at a project today that I have no answers for.

Existing theater, 3-4 years old. Marantz AV8801 preamp, Panasonic projector (that is dying), Directv box, Amazon fire, Samsung Bluray.

Client wants to replace projector with a JVC 4k unit and utilize 4k content (directv, Appletv, etc).

Problems:
Preamp is not HDCP 2.2 compliant
HDMI cable from rack to projector is 4 year old monoprice cable, no idea on capability.
No cat 6 from rack to projector (rules out HDMI extenders). 1st floor of a 2 story home, ceiling finish (textured, faux, flat paint) cannot be color matched.
Client is not stoked on cutting up the ceiling or replacing his $4,000 preamp.

Do any of the HDCP "Fixers" work worth a crap?
In all my years in the industry I have managed to avoid using them somehow. Would they be an applicable solution in this situation?

How would you guys handle this? I suspect I am going to be seeing a lot more of this stuff in the future.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

When you open up the ceiling, put in a conduit so when 8k is available he won’t have to cut the ceiling again

You could try the ethereal GA1 or whatever it is . (Can't remember the model #)
I use one in my own room and it works great.
Still have to replace the marantz though.

The thing is technology changes, and this means hardware changes. He can add a Lumagen at about $5k for video and keep his Pre/Pro.

I usually start asking how old one's phone is, how old is their laptop, or how old is their car. At some point either they get it or not that no matter how much money was spent, if you want new technology you need to buy new gear.

But who knows on the cable until you give it a whirl. I have used several of Ethereal's GA1's with great success. Is there existing HDMI cable chipped, it so you need to pull new wire.

Band aids mean service calls and unhappy customers. Which means bad referrals...

There are a few HDFury pieces that will handle the HDCP issues...

but what good is getting around that if you cant get the 4k Signal through the cable.

Netflix wont play in 4k unless you actually have a full 4:4:4 60p HDR compliant signal path.

Got any cat at the projector?

Find a way to install the AppleTV and DirecTV boxes at the projector and bring optical outputs through cat back to audio system. It's all wireless anyways ;)

What room is directly above the theater?
If it's carpeted, role it back, cut a slot in the floor along the path from the projector to the equipment location and install a smurf tube.

Glue/screw down the removed floor strip and have the carpet re-stretched.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Me too!

2-3 hours of my time plus a re-stretch usually results in the clients thanking me more than once!

Much more affordable than the alternative.

It that fuzzy floor covering that collects dirt and keeps carpet cleaning guys in business!

Some people like it because it's warm and soft on the feet.
It Absorbs sound and makes bedrooms seem more quiet.

1x2 HDMI splitter?
1 goes to PJ (once you figure out how to get 4k to PJ), 2nd goes to existing pre amp.

Can we start with the distance on the cable? There should be some sort of rating/gauge on the jacket.

Passive/Active?
