Installed an EEOR WIFI system today and the client pulled a dusty URC MX-800 remote out of a drawer and asked me to swap DirecTV for the new UVERSE box.
I have 850 software. Will that work? I dont have the programming cable with me or i would have checked myself. Taking the remote home with me to try and sort it out tonight.
Thanks.

Should work. I seem to recall mx700’s working with it as the only main difference was the mx-850 had a separated select button in the directional pad and different backlight display.

As tweet said, the MX700, 800, and 850 will all program with that same software. The bigger problem is the UVERSE box. The IR database is very old with that software and may not have the codes for that box. If the box gives you problems learning all the codes in, could be a dead end.
When you dig thru your box of programming cables, the URC will be the one with DB9 on one end and 3.5mm stereo on the other (gold plated). The cables with DB9 on one end and 3.5mm stereo on the other (Tin plated) were for the old Pronto remotes (which were null modem).

Yes. S/W will work. Uverse codes are in database but they can be wonky on some uverse boxes (repeats etc.) Learning may be your best bet. Note that there is an on board learning function (no s/w required) built into the remote. You access the menu in the remote control and select learn.

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV. My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird. |

Early on I had issues with Uverse codes. I have not had that issues in years though. I've just used whatever codeset is in the DB and they've worked fine.

MX800/MX850 are base hardware identical. Software differs only in the picture of the example remote. If it's a live updateable version, make sure you do that first (although I think they've recently stopped supplying database updates).

I finally got around to trying this just now. My existing 850 software was able to upload from the remote. Uverse is in the database under cable/uverse. Seems to have all the commands i need. I wont know till i am on site.
Not a big deal if they don't work. I can teach them on site. Being able to just choose a new device and have the buttons all autopopulate while leaving my macros alone saves me a ton of time.
I think i post asking about MX-700 or 800's every 5 or 6 years lol.

Uverse boxes have always been code set 151.
Newer boxes can be erratic.
