Ok... I know... WTF?

Think Bowling Alley with scoring monitor system from Brunswick with Aux composite video input and the desire for signage between games.

The previous iteration was using a computer with a DVI-A output converted to VGA converted to composite. Surprise!.. it never worked very well and it is now time to move on from that. They want to use a laptop and composite video... not even sure they offer video cards with composite anymore.

I looked at the Atlona piece but hear that it has a 95% failure rate. Not sure if people just are not configuring it correctly or if HDCP issues are at work.

Please don't give me a link to Amazon :)

why would this not fall under the category of.

"No possible way this could ever be anything other than a headache"

Bowling alley doesnt want to spend any money to do it right so lets hodge podge something cheap and unreliable to do what they want.....

What could possible go RIGHT?

use an HDFury and connect the component output to a component to composite scaler.  should look nice and fuzzy by the time it hits the display.

Are you sure the monitors are running composite? I did a bowling alley project a couple years ago and looked at replacing the old CRT monitors. The problem wass it was some proprietary connector that Brunswick had to try to keep their customers locked in. In the end, the owner decided to leave the monitors until they die.

But someeoe here did turn me onto this company

But the best thing is to walk away if they arent willing to spend some money and do this right.

If it's their own content, I'd doubt that the hdmi out of a PC would have HDCP. But still, I would not trust a down-converter for this... Way to many variables for it to operate reliably.

Just a thought... Roku Express+ has legacy outputs. Very inexpensive. Put a digital sign "channel" on it. Or simply "Cast" content to it from a PC or tablet.

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.
