I was forced to go to my local A@I today. While there, I saw a sign with the term DIVAR on it. That's right, folks, someone who can't say dee vee arr, or can't understand the ter. DVR, has to call it a DIVAR. That's repulsive.

I feel like calling the FIBBI. Or maybe even the CHIA.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I looked at the links Casey posted and even downloaded few documents to see if this was some sort of acronym -- nope, nothing that I could see to explain the name.

With that said, if ADI was listing this brand/model(s) as a special, it's not on them (ADI) for correctly listing the product.

Casey, do you have any idea how long it's been since I had to read German?

Im not sure its German. Google Translate says the word Divar is Azerbaijani, and it means wall. But when I tried putting the above text in google translate, it couldnt figure it out. It thought it was english. On closer look, it seems to have a mix of languages. Either way, I thought it might keep Ernie busy.

On the issue of the Divar name on a Bosch product, Bosch is usually much better than that. My brother in law worked for them and being an international company, they make employees often use English for work communication. Its kind of odd for them to pick a product name that doesnt make sense in English for a product marketed in the US.

Das is keine Deutschsprache!

That is NOT German.

I'm guessing someone thought that a term like radar (from "radio detection and ranging") would somehow ease our lives, or catch on as a hip term. That is, if it's indeed a DVR. I was in too much of a hurry to even look, but the deal was, if you buy 8 cameras, you get a free DIVAR.

Not giving Bosch enough credi here. DIVAR IP units are NVRs, not DVRs, which Bosch is mindful of.

Anyway, DIVAR stands for Digital Versatile Recorder.

(Though, probably not a good idea from a product marketing perspective because of its likelihood to produce confusion with DVRs.)

If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

I can't believe this thread went 13 posts without anyone simply saying it did not and was not intended to say D.V.R. but instead is the name of the line. That's right, folks, someone who can't comprehend, or can't understand the ter. DVR, has nothing to do with a line called DIVAR. That's repulsive.

I tired at post 3, but it may have been too subtle.
