Hi all! The last few jobs I've completed using an MX780 & MRF 350 combo and they appear to be consistant with two problems. All remotes & kits were purchased at different times and different suppliers. I notice the MX780's buttons are not always immediately responsive (on at least 6 remotes this year) and sometimes require a second press, doesn't matter if it's IR or RF. The MRF 350's are picking up more RF interference then I've ever seen. No jobs have the same gear, different cable & sat boxes, one had appleTV one didn't, AV Receivers different brands, Blu-ray different brands. Moving the antenna around, changing antenna connecting cables and still lots of interference rendering the control system super unreliable.Last one was so bad I had to install an IR Kit in place of the MRF350. This past year I switched over to the MX780's after using MX850 & MX350 for years with very few issues.
Appreciate any thoughts/experiences you've had.

Only got a couple of 780s out there but they're from a couple years ago. No interference issues -apart from the normal- and no bad buttons. LCD screen went nearly out in one of them.

I've pretty much been trying to stick with the 900 and 990s and no issues, although I will say I am planning more and more on not having the antenna anywhere close to the equipment.

I assume you changed the channels of the MRF350/780?

you need to move the antenna as far away from the equipment as you can..Cableboxes throw off some nasty RF interference.

Standard check list for this stuff:

1) As stated above, you did change the channel correct? Channel ID 0 is for testing interference and will be subjective to all interference in the area. You are NOT suppose to use ch ID 0.

2) Move antenna away from any other equipment 'and' wires. If you can not get the antenna at least 2 feet away or more from other equipment 'AND' wiring, then look into remote mounting the antenna by running cat5 to somewhere else and installing the antenna.

Things that can generate interference near the antenna = Any electronic equipment, especially with hard drives or high speed processors (which is most things these days). Cheap cables that do not have enough shielding (seen this many times). Keep in mind the IR emitter wires as well. Those can pickup noise and send back into the base station, causing interference to some or all components. In other words, keep all wiring related to the control away from all other wiring as much as possible.

I have dozens of 780/mrf350 combos out in the field. Never any complaints.

Here's something that's overlooked a lot. If you are using HDMI cables with poor shielding they can really affect the antenna. If any of the URC wires are running close to HDMI, try swapping that out with a better shielded cable.

I've found some cable boxes, Bluray player, Wifi causes interference too.

I had interference issues on a job in which I had used the supplied cable that comes with the mrf350. I never use it as I always run the antenna into the basement or crawl with a cat5 cable. This particular job the equipment was in the basement and I tried using the supplied cable. The interference was BAD. I changed over to a cat5 and the interference disappeared. For a couple months at least. I had to go back and relocate the antenna to another part of the basement and fixed the issue.

We have a LOT of those out in the field and we haven't run into issues with RF at all (aside from a one-off here and there). If you had been using MX850s/MX350s with an MRF350 and you never saw issues and now you are...I have no idea. If that was the case, then you are familiar with all of the dos/don'ts with RF (don't put them on top of a BD player, RF ID, keep away from ATT boxes, etc.).

From time-to-time, remote build changes and there are issues that the manufacturer doesn't mention right away but that we experience. Examples are when the MRF260 started having all kinds of RF problems about 5ish years ago, the bad batch of MX980s about 1.5 years ago, etc. However, I'm confident that if the MX780 had a recent problem, our guys would have seen it as we deal with those remotes weekly.

Are you noticing more of the issues specifically with RF noise and seeing the RF light on the antenna indicating RF noise? If so, who is the main cable provider in your area?

Test one button at a time.
Press Mute or Vol- a hundred times if that's what it takes and see if you have any missed.

I've seen a bunch of drivers that 780 didn't like some of the codes. Some buttons worked reliably and others would either misfire or lockup the remote.
Spend some time and narrow your issue.

Cheap HDMI Cables will kill you in more ways than one. I had an issue with a cable providers HDMI cable. It turned out it was causing interference. Long story short, the Ethereal HDMI fixed the problem.

A couple of things to try.

1. Remove the antenna completely

2. Put one of these around the antenna: [Link: amazon.com]
