uncovered this today on a job, and then slowly the phone and emails started coming in about not being able to control their cable boxes..

Called in to Fios on behalf of my client today and they informed me of a mistake. they are pushing out firmware tonight to remedy it. Not all accounts are effected but any system that has the quantum router has a higher chance of getting the update.

The tech also said that if users dont get the update tonight they will by the weekend. He couldnt tell me if it was isolated to our area (Philadelphia market) or country wide.

No complaints yet but will monitor. The boxes at my house seem unaffected so far. Thanks for the heads up.

Quantum Router, sheeeit. Meanwhile Comcast is ramping up to roll out wireless clients that require their gateway to function. The router battle is ticking up a notch.

Just keep the the service provider's router first. Have just their STB's on it and your router off of theirs. Put your router in their router's DMZ and you are good to go. I do it on EVERY job. You get support (f you need it) and ALL firmware updates. NO issues

Yes the only real way to coexist with a Fios router.

But curious about these IR code changes... No complaints today either so maybe they fixed it or it was an isolated incident.

FiOptics and Bell Fibre have done this. Even with the provider remote they cause a headache.

Maybe it’s a variant on the old “Bullet” that cable providers used against the bars showing sportscasts over pirated cable boxes.
