Looks pretty good, I'm thinking about getting one.

Stupid question time: When mapping a tp cable, what does "split pair" mean? *tucks tail in shame*

Grasshopper,

If you're looking for a wire mapper/certifier.  I have a wire mapper/certifier that I paid as I recall about $500 for.  I used it once for a 80 camera installation and never picked it up again..

I'm happy to part ways with it for a steep discount if you're interested...

It' in my garage and I'm in the middle of cooking a steak, so I can't give you any more details on it..But if interested, I'll pul it out of the heap tomorrow and snap some pics..

I've got all kinds of other stuff too that I'm ready to throw in the trash.

Do tell!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

"A split pair is a wiring error where two wires of a twisted pair are instead connected using two wires from different pairs..." ~~~~ ie there are at least 4 conductors that aren't lining up right? Meaning the person terminating the wire was drunk/high/stupid, or had to get creative to make things work? I haven't run into it often.

For me, it was always green/white and blue/white.  I always had a problem seeing the color differences...

So, I'd end up putting Green/White in the Blue/White spot or visa versa.  It didn't help that I'd typically buy cheaper Cat5

So....You split the pairs...you probably have 1/2 of a pair on the wrong color.

Yes, cheap wire will test one's color perception -- but it's much easier to carry that full box of wire. (I can always identify the Home Depot wire simply by picking up the box or by the wire's wimpy feel.)

I've carried one of these for years for trouble shooting and wire mapping.

Remember when the Ideal tool guy was giving away tools and testers? He sent me one of those, and I too use it as my primary tester.
