I show up at a client's house at 4:00 because the bedroom tv has sound but no picture (audio is through the DA system, and video is through an hdmi matrix). I find the tv isn't turning on. Closer look, the IR flasher isn't working. I've seen this happen before with Elan and go to reboot the processor (I do this from in the configurator). When the processor comes back up... its factory defaulted. Yep... completely clean slate.

My back up was out of date. It got about 90%. I had to sort out some ports and IP addresses. I got it up so TVs work tonight. Then I found the initial problem was a bad IR port.

Had a client move the IR emitter on a cable box yesterday, then call me to say the TV wasn't working.

Close by so I stopped in and moved the IR emitter back into position.

Tough day. Had to go home and have a big glass of Pinot....LOL

Been there done that. Today was great...swapped an old 2 channel amp with a new one. I had 2 nightmares like that in the last few years...With a crestron DM switch where a simple power cycle turned into the darn thing not loading. After an hour of trying things with tech support i just started unplugging it and plugging it back up over and over till it finally booted. I probably pulled that plug 100 times. With Lutron we had a client with a party starting in an hour...window company shows up with a replacement lutron shade. House manager tells the window company to go ahead and replace the shade in the master bedroom...then shoots me a text to add the new shade. Lutron software was buggy as hell for a while and after 2 hours of failed uploads i made the window guy put the old shade back in. Shade was dirty so they ordered a new one and created a nightmare.

I called ATT "Tech Support" and the call ended abruptly after 50 minutes, with 45 of those minutes spent on hold. I was trying to have a new set top box authorized and I called again later, only to waste another hour anfmd finding out that the box update failed and now, I need to go back to meet with an ATT "technician".

Why can't we have nice things?

Hi,

Given that the reboot menu item is right above the reset menu item (aside from the divider) is it possible that you hit the wrong one?

I can see me doing something like that if I was rushed or distracted.

I heard from somewhere. That you start swearing up and down... “get me a f...ing operator right the f... now you piece of s...” to the automated system. That it will sense your hostility and your anger. And place you at the front of the holding line or very close. I have yet to try this though.

I've considered that is a possibility. The warning confirmation is so different I thought I would have caught that, but I was in a hurry.
