For sharing local music (in this case it's all in iTunes/Apple ecosystem), normally we would use Apple Music, or before that came out, Google Music with Media Manager software.

For client (assistant) imposed reasons, they are looking to avoid that if possible, and want to keep the sharing of the local music library across a few geographically separate properties "in-house".

From my searches it appears that there's no good way to do this, because the Sonos Music Library uses SMB. Just wanted to double check here: Local folder shares over the internet isn't a viable option right?

Thanks.

I recall we looked into this once a few years ago for a client. They wanted to link their home and office Sonos systems. After a brief conversation with their IT guy (and my head spinning a bit) all I remember was "security risk". We went with cloud storage, despite the IT guy signing off on a VPN link between the two properties for other tasks. Something about the SMB share creating too much of a risk over the VPN...

Tell the assistant to stick with what she is good at and let you do your job correctly.

If they really insist on local storage, go with dedicated desktop computers at each location and use something like google drive or Dropbox to synch them all.

I've never used it to sync across properties, but the in house syncing has been awesome.

We use it a lot to sync from multiple itunes libraries to NAS drives.

Synology NAS drives in each location with sync enabled. Not only can they use it to store and sync their music, but use them for offsite backups, etc.

Are they? o.O

Have they ever acknowledged the existence of Control4 or Savant?

What I was going to say.

I like the synology idea as well. I didn't know that was an option with them, but I have a synology nas here, and I don't take advantage of it like I should. Capable product.

I believe the Netgear ReadyNAS can do this too.
