I have a job I did in January where we installed 2 Sony STR-DN1070 Receivers and 2 Sony XBR75X850D TVs that are being controlled with control4 thru ip. When we installed it originally it worked fine, but the clients has called before saying that the system doesn't work and when we check the tv and the receiver have the settings set back to default. I thought it may have had something to do with the auto update, so i turned that off but it still does it. Also everything is wired to the network, but when i get there the Tv's and receivers are set to wifi.

Has anybody had this issue before. I'm going back Monday to check it again, I'm going to check the firmware but I updated it last time i was there.

Are you saying they are set to WiFi, so not connecting? Or are you saying they are actually connected to WiFi?
If the latter: How can the components be on WiFi, if they were never setup on WiFi? Answer: They can't.

If you didn't do it, that means 100% someone else is screwing with the system. Even if the customer is 100% sure they didn't do it, that just means someone came into the house when they weren't there and did it.

Unless you think the Sony components have become self aware and they guessed the SSID & password for the WiFi, then connected itself.

They aren't connected to the wifi, they are just set to wifi. So if I go to network status it says network type: wifi and no network connection. On the receivers the remote settings are all set to off, which is how they come default. And on the TV's they have the authorization type set back to normal so he doesn't have any control until we set it back to wired network and set all the setting back

I have a project that I service that has a Sony AVR being controlled via 232.. Every few months it reverts itself back to the default RS232 "Off" setting.. Annoying

That is weird. I haven't seen this resetting issue with any of my installs with Sony equipment.
Have you asked about power issues in that time frame? Having a lot of storms in your area lately?

As far as the TV's, if they have the Android OS, they will reset the setting for IP control ONLY when there is a new Android version. For example, a few months back there was an update to Marshmallow I believe . OS updates default some settings. After I discovered this on one install I then walked other customers over the phone with the few easy steps to reactivate it.

There was a power outage last week, after which he called and said he couldn't control it. He lost control again this past saturday. It was raining but I don't think his power went out, I Didn't get a notification from ovrc.

Yea getting the TV's reset is easy, it's just changing the authentication method, but the receivers are in the av closet and there are a few more things there that get reset.

FYI control4 can activate the IP settings for Sony AVRs rom Composer.

Rumor is we will be able todo this with the TVs soon.

I’m just using IR to the Ir in on sonys. Read so much of this it’s just not worth the hassle. IR always works and it’s discrete and hidden with the IR in.

BINGO! Still dont understand why installers want to introduce issues by adding things to the network that done need to be.

Volume feedback? Power feedback? Conditions?

IP has a lot of benefits.

Yea I went by today and put ir emitters on the receivers. If it does it again I'm just gonna swap it over.

I checked the firmware and the version on Sony's website was a higher version than what the receiver had. and it said one of the things it fixes is network connection issues.

I've used the same model receivers at other projects and nobody has said anything about them disconnecting, so hopefully the firmware update fixes it.

IR flashers fall off. RJ45 jacks don't fall out. Also, control companies keep shaving the number of ports on their controllers. It leaves us looking for solutions.

It is 2017. IP is perfectly capable of being a reliable and optimal method of device control. The problem is that whoever they are hiring to do their IP sucks at their job. There are plenty of network devices that do not reset or lose settings after an update. They need to hire the guys who did those ones. End of story.
