As always, human nature will make it impossible to solve these issues. We all try to blame so many other entities for all our problems, but it's us. We (as a whole species) are the only mechanism powerful enough to make actual fundamental change. Everything else pales in comparison. And, yah!, we are the mechanism that is basically impossible to actually get pointed in the a particular direction.

It can happen, but it takes enormously ugly events to do it, like WWII. And of course, eventually our human nature will insure that the enormously ugly event happens, but it may be too late at that point. And people generally don't think about it so much, but a huge die off in the human population will have devastating consequences as well, and not just for the people who die. We would be very hard pressed to maintain our technical society if that occurred.

So the only actual solution: an immediate, non-extremist but very broad change in direction, sustained over decades and centuries, is the one almost certainly never to happen. It will probably either be that we reach some tipping point and have a massive collapse with a centuries long recovery, or we just breeze right past the point of no return and figure might as well party since the end is coming anyway.

There's a slight chance that science might save us, at least from the worst of it. Though that may just be putting off the cure until the cancer is orders of magnitude larger, who knows.

But, you know, I try to stay upbeat :-)

We need to reduce the population by about 5 billion.

There are that many politicians?

This year, we as a human race reached approximately 7.5 billion people on this planet. A planet that can only comfortably sustain about 1 billion.
Natural resources are being consumed at an alarming rate.
Being huddled together with no room and little privacy inflames anger, tension, and hostilities.

And still humans breed like cockroaches. Scurrying around everywhere, consuming everything, destroying everything.

We so desperately need WW3.
Or that killer plague that is immune to all antibiotics we have festered.
Or that comet to hit the planet.
Or pray for another great flood.
Whether I survive it or not does not matter. If the human race is to make it to the next millennium (or even century at this point), it needs to happen soon. While there is still a chance for the planet to sustain itself.

We only have 5+ billions years left before our sun starts turning into a red giant. And we have to have advanced enough as a species, to leave this rock and colonize beyond our skies.
Not going to happen with the direction our societies are headed today.

Planet X is on its way
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

We would be very hard pressed to maintain our technical society ...

But, the elite think that they can just wall themselves off and continue with their lifestyle while the ignorant, unfortunate surfs suffer ... as the elite have always done. Unfortunately, the elite have failed math and don't realize that all of these little technical toys only make sense when produced and consumed at scale.

Maybe we could finally have peace. There would be multiple rocks and everyone on each rock would look the same and one would not need to tolerate anyone who didn't look and behave like the person in the mirror.

But, I'm not convinced that this is the human way. There would be exit and entrance interviews as the rocks were populated and eventually there would be missionaries who travel between rocks and attempt to enlighten the ignorant unfortunates living on the other rocks.

I think "organic" is nonsense. I understand that some people think that food is better when its organic but i am not one of them. Honestly the only thing i like from whole foods is their skirt steak and chicken thighs...but its no better than what i get from a local farm or higher end market.

Factory farming animals is a wrong solution to a real problem of over population. Humanity is good at "fixing" things the wrong way.

Humans want to sell more TV's so their solution is to pay TV manufacturer workers less money and destroy the environment in someone elses back yard so that other humans can afford to buy cheap TV's. Notice that is aid TV's and in 1 in every room. I am not talking about our clients. Most of the sub $100k household friends and relatives i know have at least 1 TV per person in the home. The consumers only "need" the TVs to be cheap because they are being paid too little by whatever industry they are slaved to. The solution should be adjusting our financial/trade system so that consumers can afford to pay what things really cost. This might make it difficult for some guy to build a couple of $100mil yachts but it would solve the problem. Consumers do not drive the race to the bottom. Greedy businessmen do. Of course consumers will shop for the lowest price but if the greedy business man leaves the price where it should be...the consumer has to pay it.

With meat the solution is to stop offering consumers cheap meat. If they cant afford to eat meat 3 meals a day they can buy a hunting rifle and a fishing pole and keep a few chickens in their back yard. If they don't have a back yard then maybe don't add to the overpopulation problem by making hungry little meat eaters..

We have to stop paying people more money as they have more Keeds.

Meaningful population control is a taboo discussion that we will need to have at some point. If we can't have that discussion, mother nature will fix things for us.

Is that an endorsement for eugenics?

Hey, I'm already doing my duty and avoiding reproduction. Of course, looking like I do, it's not been that difficult. But, still, I should get some sort of tax break or something, right? If you are an ugly MF, check 7c. On line 8 enter 25 times the number of times you have been rejected in this fiscal year.

That's the wrong way to think about it. Look up the movie 'Idiocracy' from 2006, starring Luke Wilson. Not a great movie but has some funny parts, the theme is what's not so funny.

Most people that have kids have no business or interest in having kids.

Everyone around the world should be sterilized at birth.
Then people could screw around at will.
White, trailer trash would eventually disappear since none of those mammas ever wanted to have any kids to begin.

In order to have kids, person(s) (noticed I didn't say parents) would have to show stability, financial responsibility, etc.

Obvious solution, but a very difficult "sell". Virtually every group (race, ethnic, religious, class, etc.) will be up in arms against such a plan. There will be claims that this would be a bad idea from a pure management perspective, because the early phases of this plan will skew the age distribution towards the elders.

And there will be a push for a parallel, difficult discussion about an age "cap". Supporting non productive elders, is bad economics.
