Ever get one of those painfully long voice messages requesting service, and then they whip through their phone number so fast you have replay the message five times to try and copy down the number?

Yes. After establishing a bit of a relationship with them, I tell them that communication is paramount to my making a living and I've found that it's important to give a phone number slowly. I make up some mumbo-jumbo about numbers being harder to transcribe than letters or words. Nobody seems to be offended at that.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I usually repeat my phone number when I am leaving it on voicemail. Of course with cell phones they have your number already so that is not as necessary.

I begin with my name and phone number because I'm not an inconsiderate prick. (At least not when voicemails are concerned)Besides, people should just hang up and text if it is important.

ha ha ha - yeah I hate that. I make a point of starting with my phone number, and then repeating my number twice at the end of a voicemail for this very reason.

First of all, if you have any kind of voice service handling your number such as Google Voice, Vonage, etc, or have an iPhone, this is a non issue because the number will show up on your visual voicemail (where it is probably also transcribed). But in the event you don't, most carriers provide "envelope information" that provide the number, date, time etc from the message. I know on AT&T you press 5 for this. Was this recorded on an old school tape message machine?

^ sure if they want you to call them at the same number they called you from. Have a client we're doing a theater for that a few weeks ago called from his work and left a voice mail asking for someone to call him back. That would have been easy if he left a phone number since he's an exec at Comcast and the number on CID wouldn't get me back to him. Thankfully he called back the next day when he realized all of this.

90% of the voicemails I get, they leave callback number other than the one they called from

True. They are calling from home but leave their mobile number for callback.

Voicemail is like sending a fax. Only do it ten years (or more) ago.

Email or Text so we dont have to listen to you ramble on.
