this circuit requires voltages that can cause serious death if mishandled.

It's only worth messing with if it's the serious kind.

If you're unfamiliar with circuits like this, the way to avoid shocks and serious (or, for that matter, frivolous) death is to unplug the thing and measure its B+ voltage before touching it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
