Just like the smart integrators always say "Don't use the stupid apps in the TV", this also holds true for the USB input on the TV. It is usually flaky at best with terrible navigation.
A lot of devices have USB inputs on them to facilitate usage, that work a lot better than the TV input = Roku, Bluray player, etc. And I'm almost positive that 'Android box' has one as well. Simply put a USB media player app on the Android box (probably already has one pre-installed) and be done with it.
