I couldn't find the old thread that was suggested we revive for summer time. With the holiday weekend approaching, outdoor cooking (and drinking) season is here. What's everyone's plans for the weekend? I'm putting 3 butts on the smoker and making up some lemonade shine.

Does anyone ever brine butts before smoking?

We did a pulled pork with cole slaw for lunch and filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and corn on the cob for dinner tonight at the fire hall. I'm afraid green tea is about as exciting as the beverages got. I'm driving.

I drink Bourbon neat before smoking! Does that count?

Pork and beef ribs in the smoker(dry rub)

Ribeye's,T-bones(black peeper and garlic),corn on the cob,and shrimp on the grill.

A cheesy potato dish in the oven(ingredients classified)

Some light beer,IPA's,white and red wine, and some JW Blue label for those that deserve it!

AND music of my choice covering the "party acre" with 14 speakers with individually controlled levels to avoid hot spots.

Other than family, fast cars, four wheeling, building stuff, and work, this is what I live for!

Luckily where I live cooking out is possible 365. Garlic lime pork loin that is not dry. Some locally self caught shrimp and Dewars White label w/ ginger ale. And let's not forget those that help make this possible.

Instead of grilling the corn on the cob, put it in the smoker. I tried it last year and its the best corn I've ever had. Something about the smoke brings out the sweetness of the corn.

Ribs, ribs, and more ribs! Shiner Bock!

and well maybe some BBQ Sauce.

Nothing else needed. The smoked corn on the cob sounds interesting, so I might try some of that too!

By all means, brine the butts. Will improve moisture retention. I use kosher salt, brown sugar, cumin, cayenne in my brine.

Kevin Rairdon, my colleague at Allnet, is taking me to the Indy500 for Carb Day tomorrow.

Two of our local dealers are joining us (maybe more...).

As for the rest of the weekend, I know I have at least one more cookout scheduled.

Say hello to Kevin.

I envision shrimp creole plus the home opener of gin and tonic season here on the coast. Saturday, local outfit playing r & b two towns away.

I'm going to give that a shot.
Thanks.
