Before you flame away, let me explain. I have a customer (my Reel to Reel guy) that needs to get audio from the TV back to the yamaha AVR. The TV is over the fireplace and there is no way to get more wires to the TV. Also, the customer is using all the factory remotes, so any issues created with using a smart remote or automation system wont come into play. So is there an extender that supports arc that wont make this type of client's knees buckle?

OK, flame on.

Zektor can meet the technical spec with this:

whether it will make your clients knees buckles is another matter.

I am guessing the SmartTV is being used for Netflix, YouTube or similar streaming.
Why not sell him an AppleTV or similar device that can connect HDMI into the receiver and provide him with the same (probably more) features of the SmartTV without the headache of ARC and the added cost of the HDMI extenders?

He already has an appleTV. But so far, I haven't found an appleTV that has a tuner built into it. He gets tv from an OTA antenna.

This becomes such a huge point of contention with some of my clients. They could have every streaming device in the universe and some still want access to the "smart" features of their tvs, even if they suck and are not user friendly.

The few times clients have been insistent on it, I have used the Wyrestorm EX-70-H2X-ARC HDMI extender. ARC does seem to work fine on it (at least with the combo of an LG OLED and a Sony ES AVR. Not a cheap solution (retails for ~$1,000) but if that is what they want, that is what it is gonna cost.

I'm probably misunderstanding, but how will this help with ARC? If you want OTA TV via coax/antenna, you will still need optical back to the receiver, no? ARC is via HDMI only...

I did a Panasonic LCD and used ARC to bring OTA braodcast audio back to a Marantz receiver. Worked fine.

For the OP, unfortunately it wasn't using an extender so I can't be of any help there.

The Zektor has audio in/out so you don't have to rely on HDMI ARC and still get an audio return to the Receiver.

The receiver is connected to the tv with hdmi. So just like with the streaming services on the tv, audio from the built in tuner should go back to the AVR across the ARC. That is if ARC will work. With the current hdmi balun, when I change the tv to the tuner, the AVR changes to the ARC setting and the tv remote can control volume on the AVR. But no sound, because the balun doesn't support arc.

How about putting a Tivo OTA Roamio at the AVR. That way he will still get his OTA reception and the audio go directly into the AVR.

Tivo just had a special of OTA Roamio with lifetime service for $199. Even regular price it will be cheaper than a hdmi extender with ARC.

No way he will buy the TiVo. And it doesn't look like any extenders with arc are in his price range either

What about an HDhomeRun device for the OTA content? The app Channels is great on the appleTV.
