From what I read all the time sonys the go to now for indoor residential Tvs. I'm gonna jump on the Sony bandwagon.

Figured you guys could get me up to speed fast on your takes on the diff models. 700s,750s,900s,930s,940s,z9d and on up the line.

Pros and cons and diffs as you work up the line.

Excluding OLED:

55+
Best: Z9D
Better: 930/940E
Good: 900E

Smaller sizes I would pick the highest model#. So on a 49" the 900E. The 43" is the 800E.

Big jump in image quality between the 900 and 930?

Think for this install I'm going with the xbr65x900e and an xbr43x800e

I ran into a XBR65X850C today that appears to have a bad power supply after 1.3 years. First Sony failure I have seen in recent years. Hopefully an easy fix. It tries to turn on, but gets stuck at the Sony logo, and clicks back off...endless cycle of that. Yikes.

I did not mean to try and scare you off. Just saying. Although we have had excellent "luck" with Sony over the last 20+ years, they are not immune to problems.

As golden has posted certain models come with the perverbial power brick and others are just a cord. I thought I took a pic at the Sony Road show which showed which sets have the brick but can't find it. Supposedly, there is a recess area to fit the brick between set and wall with typical mount. Haven't played with new sets yet and on last years models, if they had the brick, I used a back box.

I use industrial strength velcro to stick the brick on the back. There is plenty of room. My only gripe has been the foot long power cord they supply to go from the brick to the wall. I normally replace it with a longer one...necessary when using an articulating mount.

External power supply means easy power supply swaps when they croak. :)

That brick I posted was from a 65x900e from today. The power cord from the brick to the wall must have been 8 feet. Then the cord from the brick to the TV. I was able to plug the TV in to test with the outlet behind the TV location above a fireplace and the TV across the room. The brick was also a good 12" long.

these tvs are def not super thin by any means integrating the power supply can't be hard.

Damn. That long of a cord. Can't see cord in pic so is it detachable and can use shorter cord?

Just did a quick scan of some of the spec sheets. Seems anything in the 900E series has the power adaptor. In the 930E series the 55 is the only model with the power adaptor. Didn't check the z9d.

Exactly. We had a HDBT back there too, plus had to plug in a Playbar. It got crowded very quickly.

Golden, What were you using for the Mount? You said playbar so not sure if your was on an articulating or not. Not sure if you use Snaps low profile/tilt mounts on the Sony's but I fond myself many times having to use two different sizes. like medium for the shorter arms due to the low placement of the holes (at least least years models) and large or XL for the plate especially if the studs are off center so the TV can be shifted.

any idea the thickness of the brick. i'll be using a slimline mount that stands 1.8" off the wall. If this thing is thicker then that won't be happy.

Strong SM-T-L. I rarely use anything else. So many installs with crap that has to go behind the TV nowadays.
